Alfa Romeo’s return to the US market has been rumored for so long now that we forgot about it. The long-awaited arrival is now reportedly going to take place in 2014 using no less than four models at the same time.
These four models will not all come form Mexico like the Fiat 500 but will be built in Italy, Japan or the US.
The most exciting of these will be the two sportscars. The cheaper one is to be called the Detto, a revival of the Alfa Spider, to be developed together with Mazda. Like the Toyobaru, the car will be produced in Japan and imported. Power should come from a longitudinally mounted 1.8-liter engine.
The more expensive sportscar will be the production version of the 4C. This will also use a 1.8-liter, though placed in the back and making about 300 hp.
The most mainstream model will be the Nuovo Giulia sedan, which will share components with the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 replacement. This will be offered with a small four-cylinder as well as Chrysler Pentastar.
Last but not least, it’s the Alfa SUV, sharing its platform with the replacement for the Jeep Compass or the rumored B-SUV.
All these cars have been delayed and pushed back in the past, and are probably underbudgeted. We’d be surprised if Alfa Romeo gets new production lines, new dealers and the marketing ready in just two short years.
