Honda Cars : Honda Civic Wagon Concept Looks Beautiful in Geneva [Live Photos] | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

When Honda says the Civic Wagon or Tourer is a concept, it actually means they haven't finished the interior yet, as the body you see here is pretty much what will roll off the line in Swindon next year.

Following the recent trend for shooting brakes, the first wagon version of the Civic is drop-dead gorgeous, at least by Honda standards. Even if we ignore the glistening white headlights that won't be the same on the production car, the flush door pillars make the side profile look like some sort of Pininfarina concept, not something you use to take the kids to school.

The production version of the Civic Tourer will be in dealerships in early 2014 and will be built alongside the hatchback model in Honda’s production facility in Swindon, Wiltshire. It will be available with the very same choice of four engines, two petrol and two diesel, as the Civic hatch.

We expect the pick of the bunch to be either the economical new 1.6 i-DTEC diesel with 120 PS and 300 Nm or the more powerful 2.2-liter diesel for people who really need to hall…

Honda Cars : Honda Civic Tourer Wagon Concept Surfaces, Teases Production Model | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Revealing new images of Honda's new Civic Tourer small wagon have surfaced online this meaning, giving the new model an unscheduled unveiling.

Shown here in concept form, the Civic Tourer evolves the look of the still-new Civic Hatch, while adding a unique new D-pillar, a new tail-light design, large alloy wheels and centre-mounted exhaust tips.

The concept is decked out in LED lighting at both ends, and while the headlight and tail-light LEDs could transition to production, the bumper lighting is unlikely to cross over.

Like the new CR-V SUV, the stretched Civic Tourer concept is likely a thinly-veiled preview of the coming production model.

Like the UK-built Civic Hatch, a right-hand-drive version of the wagon is likely, meaning that the only thing keeping it from Australia will be a suitable business case.

Internationally, the Civic Hatch will take on Volkswagen's coming new Golf wagon, along with the wagon versions of Ford's Focus and the Toyota Auris (Corolla in Australia).

At the 2013 Montreal Auto Show, Honda surprised everyone when they debuted the GEAR Concept, which is inspired by fixed-gear bicycles. Honda says, the GEAR Concept is practical, but fun.

GEAR Concept is actually a study on what the next subcompact car will look like and what it takes to attract buyers. Detroit Auto Show saw debut of the Honda Urban SUV Concept, while GEAR is being targeted in a special market. GEAR Concept is not based on any other Honda platform. It is seen as a two door model, smaller than the Honda Fit and is being projected as an ideal vehicle specially for the younger and urban Gen-Y population.

This vehicle is seen as a fun model, principally inspired by fixed gear bicycles and is based on a simple and utilitarian concept. Thought officially debuted, the company failed to offer any information about the vehicle’s powertrain or if they even have any intentions to introduce a production model. The All-New 2013 Honda Accord Coupe HFP

The GEAR concept was joined by the 2013 Honda Accord Coupe HFP -- a performance-packed vehicle exclusively available for Canadian customers. As the newest edition to the Honda Factory Performance line-up, the sporty, Accord Coupe HFP adds an extra level of limited-edition style and performance to an award-winning vehicle that has already received accolades from media and customers from coast to coast. 

"Honda Factory Performance provides the next step in handling and styling," said Dave Gardner, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Honda Canada Inc. "For our customers who want Honda quality, reliability, efficiency and safety, but with even more expression and personality, the Accord HFP is the product that will deliver." 

The Accord HFP builds on the award-winning 2013 Accord Coupe EX-L V6 Navi with improved handling and more aggressive styling. The enhanced exterior styling comes from a wider and lower appearance, achieved through a 10-mm suspension drop, 19-inch wheels and body kit that includes front, rear and side skirts and a rear lip spoiler. An all-new Honda "Urban SUV Concept" vehicle made its world debut today at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The dynamic and youthful concept hints at the styling direction of an all-new small SUV slated to launch in Japan by the end of 2013, followed by the U.S. market in 2014.

"No one has had greater success with small cars than Honda, and this Urban SUV Concept will create new value in the growing small-SUV segment," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales at American Honda. "With the continued expansion of our North American manufacturing operations, we expect fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive 'small' cars to play a key role in meeting the needs of our customers in the U.S."

The Urban SUV Concept is intended to provide the basis for a fun-to-drive and fuel-efficient small SUV with aspirational design, flexible packaging and next-generation connectivity targeting active lifestyle customers. The concept showcases clean and sophisticated styling, dynamic character lines and a strong stance, with hidden rear door handles giving the SUV a coupe-like presence. Measuring 169.3 inches long, the Urban SUV Concept is nine inches shorter than the Honda CR-V, making it the ideal size for navigating both crowded city streets and open mountain roads.

The Urban SUV Concept represents the expansion of vehicles based on Honda's Global Compact Series, which includes the Honda Fit subcompact and the Honda City subcompact sedan, a model sold in markets outside the United States.

All-New Small SUV Launching 2014

Honda Cars : Honda, BMW Deploying Unmanned Concepts at Los Angeles Design Challenge | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Mercedes-Benz has received coverage aplenty for the Ener-G-Force SUV previewed ahead of the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. This vehicle might anticipate the future of body design but relies on the steady hand of a highway patrol officer. The Los Angeles Design Challenge slated for November 28^th is not entirely tethered to the traditional role of the driver. This contest features entries from Honda and BMW that rely on sensors as well as wireless communications to pursue suspects in 2025. Honda and BMW are mobilizing drones along with unmanned cars to meet the eco-friendly requirements of the challenge.

Honda’s CHP Drone Squad was created as a solution to endless sprawl envisioned for Southern California by 2025. The continued expansion of freeways, spreading of communities and swelling population will create new problems for police departments. The CHP Drone Squad concept begins with the Auto-Drone, an all-electric delivery vehicle that can cover large areas with no emissions. Honda would also include at least one Moto-Drone motorcycle that could be deployed for high-speed chases. This mobile enforcement module can be operated entirely without human drivers. The Auto-Drone is capable of traveling off road and keeping up with speeding perpetrators. A design team including Jason Wilbur, Eddie Birtulescu and Raj Rihal seemed inspired as much by Knight Rider as an alt-fuel future.

The BMW E-Patrol Concept designed by Jose Casas and Won Awe focuses more on speed rather than range. BMW anticipates a future where police officers have to contend with worsening traffic and high speeds. These conditions contribute to increased accidents, speeding tickets and other incidents requiring immediate attention. A primary vehicle operated by a police officer holds three drones capable of responding to incidents within seconds of deployment. The officer can send out a flying drone that assesses accidents from above and tracks suspects until additional units arrive. A pair of single-wheel drones can pursue conventional vehicles at highway speeds and force speeders to the side of the road.

The 2012 Los Angeles Design Challenge forces automakers to create unconventional solutions for police departments of the future. This challenge requires participants to use original designs that can work in the real world while reducing environmental impacts. BMW and Honda certainly met the former requirement though details about drive systems were not yet available. A glimpse at sketches for the CHP Drone Squad and the E-Patrol Concept reveals solutions for a dystopian future akin to Robocop that are hopefully prevented well before 2025.

The Ener-G-Force, the CHP Drone Squad and E-Patrol Concept generate buzz but we must be mindful of realistic concerns for potential customers. Officials from the city level through state government could still be facing significant budgetary constraints by 2025. A realization of even a handful of green vehicles from the Los Angeles Design Challenge would require infrastructure investment that has not yet materialized. Automakers might not bring drones and unmanned police vehicles to market anytime soon but eco-friendly infrastructure must be created to ensure public safety as police departments head toward new technology.

Honda Cars : Carscoop!: Honda Sports Ute Concept by Daniel Pearson is so Wrong that it Could be Right | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

In most places around the world, the words "sports" and "utility vehicle" don't make much sense together. 
 
However, there are some exceptions, notably Australia, which through Ford's local division gave birth to the coupe utility category in the early 1930s and continues to be represented to this day by the Ford and Holden Utes, and of course, North America, with its most famous model being the Chevrolet El Camino. 
 
To put it simple, a Coupe Utility vehicle is a passenger car model with two doors and an open cargo bed, the purpose being to bond (...or compromise) two different worlds into one automobile. 
 
A Coupe Utility is what Daniel Pearson, a third year design student from the UK, had in mind for his Honda project aptly named the "Sports Ute". The two seater study was designed to be 4.7 meters long (185 inches) riding on a lengthy 3,025mm (119.1 inches) wheelbase, all while looking like it belongs to the same family of cars as the NSX. 
 
Pearson says he imagined the concept as a front-engine, rear wheel-drive model. 
 
Here's how Pearson describes the Honda Sports Ute: 
 
"This concept was intended to be an all-in-one sports car/utility vehicle. As a 2 seater sports car owner myself, I understand how frustrating it can be at times when you need practicality.
My concept utilises all the benefits of a sports car, embraces them with practicality, and enables multiple user experiences from just one vehicle. A fully usable tailgate enables loading at the rear, and clip-on spoiler can be fitted to give rear downforce when used as a sportscar.
A meaty 2.0 turbocharged VTEC engine, with an electronic boost controller gives 3 levels of power for different modes of driving. 300bhp peak power, sent along a prop shaft to the rear wheels automatically puts this car into the Japanese sports car market, but with a twist."

Honda Cars : Retro-styled Honda city car leaked | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Several leaked computer-generated patent images have revealed Honda’s upcoming retro-styled city car. Considered a kei car in its home country of Japan, it will not be sold in Europe or in the United States.

The images show that the yet-unnamed city car is heavily inspired by both the N600 of the 1970s and the N Concept 4 that was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. Unlike the tiny N600 it will have four doors.

The car’s exact dimensions are not currently available but Japan’s laws on kei cars give a very good idea of what to expect. The retro-styled Honda will be no more than 133 inches long and 58 inches wide, dimensions that are perfectly adapted to the crowded streets of Japans.

The leaked images do not show the car’s interior but it is expected to be bare-bones at best.
Under the hood will be a 660cc VTEC four-cylinder engine that will churn out approximately 64 horsepower, the maximum allowed for a kei car. It will send power to the front set of wheels.

Honda is expected to release a full set of details about the retro-styled city car before the end of the year. It will make its global debut in its home country and later be exported to several neighboring countries.

Hmmm.... is this a concept drawing of the next gen Honda Accord????
Honda has announced it will unveil two new concept cars at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show taking place later this month.

The automaker states that the concepts are a preview for models focused on Chinese customers and that their Beijing appearance will be their official world premiere.

Along with the announcement, Honda released these two teaser sketches which show the outline of a sedan and a hatchback.

Comparing the sketches with previously revealed concept and production models from Honda, it’s likely that the sedan concept is a preview of the Chinese market 2013 Honda Accord, which Honda has already previewed with a coupe concept in U.S. specification at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

The hatchback concept, meanwhile, appears to share many lines with the European market Honda Civic and is likely to be a preview of the Chinese version.

No other details have been released so we’ll have to wait until the 2012 Beijing Auto Show’s April 23 opening day.

Sharing Honda’s stand at the show will be the CR-Z, Insight and Fit Hybrid, while the upmarket Acura division will be showing off the NSX supercar concept and new ILX and RDX models.

Honda has also confirmed that the new Acura NSX will be sold in China once the car is launched in around three years, while the upcoming RLX flagship sedan will launch next year.

Honda unveiled the 2013 Crosstour Concept today at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), providing the first official glimpse of a more capable-looking exterior styling direction for the luxurious mid-size CUV. Set to go on sale this fall, the Crosstour's defined lines will resonate more clearly with the active consumers that form the largest portion of the premium crossover segment. The 2013 Crosstour V-6 will feature improved fuel economy thanks to its new 6-speed automatic transmission, while both four-cylinder and V-6 versions will benefit from a host of safety and visibility upgrades.

"Fueled by a combination of versatility, luxury, and efficiency, owners have demonstrated remarkable devotion to the Honda Crosstour," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The 2013 Crosstour Concept shows how Honda will strengthen the styling and add even more content to one of the most efficient offerings in the class."

Concept Design
The Crosstour Concept features a more capable, SUV-like styling direction for Honda's mid-size crossover. A more aggressive and athletic front end, new contrasting moldings on the lower door garnish, and cleaner front and rear fascias anchored by the rugged look of finished sill plates provide more visual strength to the Crosstour Concept. Adding to the SUV-like stance, a new rear-fender finish helps give the Concept a more solidly planted appearance.

Up front, the new integrated foglamp treatment is complemented by a slotted finish beneath the headlights, which helps integrate the new, bolder grille. The revised tailgate sports a more horizontal design to add visual width to the sculpted lines at the rear of the Crosstour.

The Crosstour Concept is coated in a fresh hue, similar to one of two new shades that will appear on the 2013 Crosstour. Anchoring the Crosstour Concept are unique 5-spoke 19-inch wheels, while the 2013 Honda Crosstour will feature new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Advanced and Efficient Powertrains
The Crosstour will offer two powertrains for the 2013 model year: a re-engineered and more powerful 3.5-liter, 24-valve, SOHC, i-VTEC V-6 engine, or a 2.4-liter i-VTEC inline four-cylinder engine. The 2013 Crosstour V-6 models will feature a 6-speed automatic transmission and utilize Honda Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) technology to achieve class-leading V-6 fuel economy1 along with an overall improvement in fuel economy compared to the outgoing model. Also available on Crosstour EX-L V-6 models is Honda's Real Time 4WDTM system, which sends power to all four wheels when front-wheel slippage is detected.

The next Crosstour will be available with Honda's Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) technology. Both systems use a camera mounted behind the windshield to alert drivers if the car is moving unexpectedly out of its lane or to warn drivers of a potential collision in front of them.

The 2013 Crosstour will provide a host of visibility enhancements, and will be one of the first models to receive the Honda-exclusive LaneWatch™ blind-spot display, which uses a camera system mounted on the passenger mirror for an enhanced view of the passenger-side roadway. Standard equipment to further enhance visibility on the 2013 Crosstour will also include re-shaped rear headrests, a rearview camera and an ExpandedView Driver's Mirror.

Standard Crosstour convenience features include an automatic dimming rearview mirror, auto-on/off headlights, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and USB audio interface. Other available features on the 2013 Crosstour will include a hard-drive based navigation system, Pandora internet radio interface, XM satellite radio and an SMS text-to-speech function.

First launched in 2009, and now available with both V-6 and four-cylinder engines, the Crosstour remains one of the most versatile choices in the midsize crossover segment, and earned the distinction of J.D. Power and Associates' "Highest Ranked Midsize Crossover/SUV in Initial Quality" in their 2011 Initial Quality Study SM (IQS). You know, we're realists, and we know deep down that cars in the future are going to drive themselves just fine without a humanoid robot to grab the controls and peer out of specially crafted front compartments. Even if a humanoid was doing the steering, he'd probably just jack into the car's full complement of cameras and sensors, merely using his CPU to plot a course from his comfy charging bay in the trunk. But we want to believe. Designer Derek Chik Kin Ng has come up with this Honda concept (one which we're guessing has no official collaboration with Honda) that packs a nice little front seat for your 8th gene ASIMO. The bot can hop out of the car and help you on your errands, make casual conversation as you drive, warn you of upcoming hazards, or take over controls when you're in the mood for some SpaceChess2000. Only thing he can't do? Actually exist.

A minor model change makes sense, after all the Crosstour is pretty much an Accord, which itself is going under a "full" redesign (I am told that the Accord is just an evolutionary change on the outside, but the tech will be a good jump forward).... I can't see the Crosstour looking like the vehicle below, but I like it Neal....

The futuristic Honda Crosstour is about to get a refresh, and Honda is readying a concept car previewing the 2013 model for a New York Auto Show debut.

We should clarify a couple of things: the Honda Crosstour will turn four in 2013, which means the new car will be something of a mid-cycle refresh. The second is that Honda’s concept cars are often nearly identical to their successive production cars. When Honda says that it’s making a concept to preview the new Crosstour, it likely means that a production-looking car will be on stage at New York and the official version will hit showrooms shortly thereafter.

The new Honda Crosstour continues to face an uphill battle in the numbers: the crossover has sold just 51,380 copies since it was launched in 2009. Sales peaked in 2010 at 28,851, but dwindled since–Honda has sold just 1991 in the first two months of this year.

In hopes of broadening the car’s appeal, Honda has shifted the trim levels on the Crosstour: base models now come with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (borrowed from the Accord it’s based on) that makes 192 horsepower and delivers 3 more miles to the gallon in mixed driving than the optional 3.5-liter V-6. It also reduces the car’s base price: an I-4-equipped Honda Crosstour (shown) starts at $28,465 with destination to the V-6 model’s $31,150.

The Honda Crosstour won’t be alone in seeing its mid-cycle refresh in New York – Toyota and Subaru will be taking the wraps off the 2013 Venza and 2013 Outback, respectively, in April as well.

Will the new Crosstour make waves in the crossover market or will it sink? We’ll have to wait and see–the concept will be unveiled on Wednesday, April 4.

Known for modifying wagons like the Honda Odyssey and Nisaan Stegea, Japanese tuner Takero’s recently expanded its product offering to include the Honda Fit – with impressive results. First came aerodynamic components, followed by suspension parts, now Takero’s has revealed a wide body kit for the Fit at the Tokyo Auto Salon, plus a turbocharger setup.

Head-on the Takero’s Fit still looks impressive, but the widebody sub-compact looks a little absurd from any other angle. The obvious advantage, however, is the ability to fit wider tires for more grip, with some massive 225/35/18 rubber on this machine. And that extra tire is no doubt necessary to help put down the extra power generated by the new turbocharger setup. Unfortunately, Takero’s hasn’t released any specs on the kit, but we’d expect something close to the 180 hp mark.
