Honda Cars : Toxic Dangers Found in Automobiles | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Here's an interesting read sent to me by the author, Brian Turner....
Whenever you're behind the wheel, you're probably thinking about how to drive safely so that you don't hurt yourself or your passengers in an avoidable accident. But the greatest danger on the road isn't from other cars it's from toxic chemicals that are found in nearly all automobiles.

Windshield Dust
Windshield dust poses serious health risks to people who ride in automobiles. Dust on windshields contains PVCs fire-retardant chemicals that are found on clothing items and other commonly used items. PVCs are linked to birth defects and learning impairments in children, so it's especially important for pregnant mothers to avoid exposure to them. If you turn on your air conditioning system while dust is on your windshield, the dust will get sucked back into the car and you may breathe it in. Clean your windshield regularly and roll windows down when first starting the car instead of turning on the air conditioner to reduce your risk of exposure to PVCs.
Asbestos in Brake Pads
Car Manufacturers are doing a much better job building vehicles today. Although, if you own an older car and change your brake pads yourself, you should be aware that you may be exposing yourself to mesothelioma, a rare and fatal form of cancer, or other lung problems. Many brake pads contain asbestos particles. Asbestos have been linked to mesothelioma, so you need to limit your exposure to these particles. Professional mechanics wear masks while changing brake pads and other parts like clutch plates, linings, etc. and take other precautions against exposure to asbestos. Consider letting your mechanic change your brake pads or wearing protective gloves and a mask while changing them.

Coatings of Interior Knobs
Many interior knobs are coated with either chlorine or bromine. Both of these chemicals are hazardous to your health. These chemicals can lead to thyroid problems, learning impairments and decreased fertility. Always wash your hands after coming in from the car, and never let your children put their fingers in their mouths while in the car. If you have children younger than five years of age, find out what their car seats are made of; bromine and chlorine are often used to make car seats, and it's difficult to stop young children from putting their hands in their mouth. Get environmentally friendly car seats that don't contain bromine or chloride to avoid exposing infants to these toxins.

Honda Cars : Environmental group sues Honda for "Save The Earth" trademark infringement | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

You gotta be kidding me....
All Honda wanted to do was save the Earth, one gallon of gasoline at a time. It turns out, though, that in the act of saving said Earth, the Japanese automaker stepped on a few toes – namely, those of Save the Earth Enterprises, an environmental group based in the United States.

See where this is going? That's right, Save the Earth Enterprises, which trademarked the slogan 'Save the Earth' way back in 1972, has sued Honda and its advertising agency, Rubin Postaer & Co., for infringement. The lawsuit seeks to recover Honda's profits from a recent ad campaign for the Civic and to stop future use by Honda of the Save the Earth trademark.

"The Honda ad campaign confused people into thinking that we endorsed Honda or were affiliated with Honda. We aren't affiliated with them and don't endorse them," said Neal Pargman of Save the Earth Foundation in a statement you'll find after the jump. The statement adds that Honda ignored cease-and-desist letters from the foundation. Perhaps they were too busy... saving the earth?

PRESS RELEASE:

Environmental Group Sues Honda, Ad Agency for Trademark Violation
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Environmental group Save the Earth Enterprises, Wednesday sued American Honda Motor Co. and its advertising agency, Rubin Postaer & Co., for using its "Save the Earth" trademark without permission in Honda's recent advertising campaign for the Honda Civic.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, seeks to recover Honda's profits from the ad campaign and to stop future use by Honda of the Save the Earth trademark.

"The Honda ad campaign confused people into thinking that we endorsed Honda or were affiliated with Honda. We aren't affiliated with them and don't endorse them," said Save the Earth Foundation Neal Pargman.

Pargman noted that he has been selling merchandise bearing the Save the Earth trademark since 1972 and holds a U.S.-registered trademark. Honda's commercial, showing several uses of Save the Earth trademark, used the Foundation's trademark without permission, and ignored cease-and-desist letters from the Foundation.

Honda Cars : Eco Cars: Honda Native all-electric concept vehicle can change its color | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Eco Factor: Zero-emission concept vehicle designed to run on electricity.

With the world in need of cars that are smarter, efficient and powered by clean fuels, industrial designers are working hard on next-gen vehicles that are light in weight, boast unique features and are powered by electric batteries. Auto designer Tudoran Liviu has come up with a concept electric vehicle dubbed the Honda Native, which packs all these requirements in a stunning package.

The concept vehicle is made of lightweight materials and uses, in some regions, a photochromatic material that allows the car to change its color when temperature, light or other environmental changes occur. The Honda Native is designed to be powered by an electric engine that is fueled by a high voltage lithium-ion battery pack.

The interiors are also designed from lightweight materials such as aluminum and offer an OLED display to provide information regarding the performance of the car and a touchscreen control panel for easy access to all other functions. No word on how long can this car run on its batteries, but considering the use of lightweight materials and the minimalist design, we are expecting some decent figures.
