Well, here's another rendering, looks good with the Honda SI Burnt Orange colour....

The Toyota Corolla Furia concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show in January this year was widely considered to be a concept car of the 11th generation Toyota Corolla.

The world famous midsize sedan is perhaps the superstar of the auto industry and features at the top of the list of the world’s best selling cars in history.

However this wasn’t to be – no less than a month after the presentation of the concept, the production model’s images leaked on the internet from a private presentation. Oh yes, the design was a drastic transformation, but we failed to find strong connections between the Furia and the production car.

Car & Driver Brazil has carried a rendering of the 2014 Toyota Corolla from a different angle in a darker body color. The author describes the Corolla as being 4.62 m long (more than 8 cm than the current version), 1.81 m wide with a wheelbase of 2.70 m.

The head room has improved considerably and so has the rear seat travel experience. It features traditional analog style instruments along with a sober background lighting and trim colors.

The engine options may not differ from the current crop for the Brazilian market. The incoming model will continue with 1.8- and 2.0-liter engines. What changes, at the request of Brazilian customers, is the gearbox. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will feature six speeds.

The new Corolla debuts in mid-to-late 2013 and about six months from the international launch schedule, the car will begin retailing in overseas markets. We can expect the new Corolla to bow in India in mid-2014.

NEW YORK — The redesigned 2014 Toyota Corolla will be unveiled before the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, a Toyota senior executive said on Wednesday at the NADA/J.D. Power and Associates conference in New York City.

Bob Carter, the senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., made the remark to reporters following a keynote speech at the conference. A Toyota spokesman told Edmunds that the Corolla will be on sale by the time of the 2013 Los Angeles show.

Toyota is not saying where the Corolla will be unveiled, only that it will be "somewhere in the U.S."

"Between New York and L.A. is a big span," said Mike Michels, a Toyota spokesman in a phone conversation with Edmunds following Carter's remarks. "Sometime a production introduction doesn't fall into the auto show timeframe."

It is unlikely that the Corolla will debut at the 2013 SEMA Show.

The next-generation Toyota Corolla promises to be longer and lower than the 2013 Toyota Corolla. The redesigned Corolla was previewed in January in the form of the Toyota Corolla Furia Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The concept rides on a 106.3-inch wheelbase compared to a 102.4-inch wheelbase on the 2013 Corolla, with an overall length of 181.9 inches versus 180.0 inches. The concept has an overall width of 71 inches compared with 69.4 inches on the 2013 Corolla, and an overall height of 56.1 inches versus 57.7 inches.
Toyota did not provide powertrain details on the Corolla Furia Concept.

The concept is fitted with 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels and features pronounced fender flares and a blacked-out grille treatment.

The 2014 Corolla takes aim at the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra.

Edmunds says: The 2014 Toyota Corolla gets teased ahead of a debut sometime before next November.

If this isn't the actual next gen Corolla, it will be a SHARP indication as to what it will indeed look like....

Reader Jeff has sent in these spyshots of the 2013 Toyota Vios, taken in an unknown location. Following the third-gen car’s introduction in Indonesia, scheduled for the second half of 2013, the Malaysian launch is expected to happen sometime late this year.

Word on the wire is that the new car could be powered by an improved version of the familiar 1.5 litre VVT-i unit. Rumour has it that a CVT is likely, but according to product planners, a four-speed auto remains a possibility.

The third-gen car wears a bold new face, inspired by the likes of the next-gen Corolla Altis and Auris hatchback. Headlamps and grille are joined in a V shape, and a gaping lower grille adds a touch of sporty presence. Those appear to be projector headlamps, too.

Round the back, the tail lamps are bigger and sharper wrap-around units, now bridged by a chrome bar across the length of the boot lid. A cleaner, more grown-up look all round than the outgoing car, we think. What do you think?

One of Toyota’s best selling car model, the Corolla is all set to get a all new version later this year. The 2014 Toyota Corolla sedan has been spotted doing the testing rounds a few times already and from the looks of it, the first uncamouflaged spyshots of the Corolla seem to have hit the interweb. If these are indeed the spyshots of the next generation 2014 Corolla. the style job of the new car takes inspiration from the Furia concept that Toyota showcased at this year’s Detroit Motor Show. This also means that the next generation Corolla could be a lot less blander than its previous versions, and this is definitely a good thing.

 Toyota’s been harping on the fact that it plans to give its car range a stylistic makeover and the 2014 Corolla could one such model that embodies the Japanese car maker’s new design philosophy. The front of the 2014 Corolla seems to feature the Toyota family face while things at the rear of the car get a tad bit more exciting with sharply raked tail lamps, a high boot and an ample bumper. On the inside, the 2014 Corolla is expected to feature safe but classy styling with understated elements dominating the dashboard.

Under the hood, things are expected to remain pretty much unchanged. The petrol engine will continue to be the 1.8 Liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated motor featuring variable valve technology. The diesel engine will be the 1.4 Liter D-4D unit replete with a variable geometry turbocharger. While the petrol engine will get a 5 speed manual gearbox while the turbo diesel engine will be paired a 6 speed manual. Conventional torque converter automatic gearboxes will be available on both the petrol and diesel engined models.

The next generation 2014 Corolla is expected to come in two different versions: A US spec model and a Euro spec model. India is expected to get the 2014 Corolla in Euro-trim. However, the next generation 2014 Corolla is expected to arrive into India only in 2015 given the fact that Toyota Kirloskar Motor has plans of going slow on new car launches in the country until 2015. when the car eventually arrives into India, we expect it to sold with petrol and turbo diesel engines, as is the case now. The 2014 Corolla will continue to sit in the Indian C+ segment, competing with the likes of the Chevrolet Cruze and the Skoda Laura.

Our Toyota Corolla Furia Concept post from last week received plenty of attention on both paultan.org and our Facebook page, and we’re guessing it’s because no one expected such a look from a Toyota Corolla, even if it’s just a concept. In the face of flashy rivals, Toyota knows it needs to take a bolder approach for the Corolla, the epitome of safe (and staid) design.

“This exciting compact sedan concept hints at the styling cues consumers can expect to see on the next-generation Corolla. The concept represents an exterior styling study by Toyota designers, and it builds on the brand’s product development priority to develop more dramatic, expressively designed vehicles,” the press release reads.

Toyota wanted a “more stable, athletic stance” and so the Furia Concept is 45 mm wider than the current Corolla Altis, while sitting 40 mm closer to the ground. Given the release of detailed dimensions and the tone of the press release, we figured that the Furia Concept is close to production, minus flashy showcar details, so we commissioned top automotive manipulator Theophilus Chin to come up with a toned-down Furia.

Honda Cars : Toyota Corolla Furia concept officially revealed at NAIAS | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

After teasing us several times, Toyota has fully revealed the Corolla Furia concept at 2013 NAIAS in Detroit.

We don't want to get your hopes up too high but it seems Toyota has big plans in terms of styling for the next generation of the Corolla. Featuring narrow headlights, a huge front grille and vertical marker lights, the Furia looks a lot better than any car with the Corolla moniker. It also has a raked windshield which makes it look more stylish.

Riding on 19-inch alloy wheels, the concept is 181.9 inches (4620mm) long, 71 inches (1805mm) wide and 56.1 inches (1425mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 106.3 inches (2700mm).

Looking slightly less bland

Purported images of the 2014 Toyota Corolla have surfaced the Internet.

Noticias Automotivas published a few scans from a Japanese brochure showing the new Corolla which as you can see will not get a revolutionary design. Nevertheless, it does look slightly better than the current model, with the front fascia looking similar to the European version of the Auris, while from the sides it's the familiar design with clean lines.

Most of the dashboard components are borrowed from the Euro-spec Auris but with less buttons. The side vents are now square and a two-tone black-beige look for the dashboard will be available.

Honda Cars : Report: Toyota Finally Adding Direct-Injected, Downsized Engines | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Few may not think of Toyota as falling behind in fuel-efficient engines thanks to the company’s dominance in hybrid powertrains, but the Japanese automaker’s non-hybrid engine tech is now years behind its competition. As it continues to refresh its global portfolio, Toyota is hoping to roll out turbocharging, direct injection, and new transmissions to help eke more efficiency from its internal combustion engines.

According to Automotive News, Toyota will introduce a slew of revised engines and new transmissions over the next two years in order to catch up with its competition. Toyota has quickly become one of the few automakers not to take advantage of the efficiency gains of variable valve timing, direct injection, and turbocharging. Prominent examples include Ford’s leveraging of much of its lineup on a number of different downsized, turbocharged engines to replace large-displacement, naturally-aspirated powerplants, and Mazda’s Skyactiv suite of technologies that prominently features direct injection and variable valve timing. The trio of valve timing, direct injection, and forced induction has become so prevalent that we even named it our 2012 Technology of the Year.

Toyota is hoping to begin rolling out two new engines and two new transmissions starting next year. AN reports the first of which will be a new 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle I-4 with direct injection, slated to find its way into the brand’s hybrids. Coming in 2014 will be a 2.0-liter turbo-four, along with a new continuously variable transmission for small-to-midsize cars and six- or eight-speed transmissions for larger vehicles. Currently, only Toyota hybrids use a CVT and the Lexus LS and IS F are the only models in the company’s portfolio to use eight-speed automatics. It’s also been rumored that Toyota may introduce a CVT in the next-generation Corolla to replace the current car’s ancient four-speed auto.

According to our source close to the matter, Toyota originally planned on introducing a direct-injection V-6 in the 2013 Avalon, but delayed that to 2015 due to cost. Adding direct injection to current engines can tack on an extra $128 to the car’s bottom line, says AN. It was because of this added cost and an incremental increase in fuel economy that Toyota Motor North America previously passed on direct injection. The automaker has had direct injection-equipped engines on sale elsewhere since 2006, and only recently introduced the technology in the U.S. in the Lexus GS and LS and Scion FR-S.

Toyota's compact will remain a mini-Camry in nearly every way.

What It Is: A next-generation Toyota Corolla sedan covered in heavy black camouflage. The Corolla is the smallest four-door in Toyota’s U.S. lineup, now that the Yaris sedan was dropped for 2012. The current-generation Corolla has been around in largely the same form since 2009—it was lightly updated for 2011 with a new face and some fresh features—but it’s time for a redesign.

Why It Matters: Toyota has dutifully updated the volume-generating sedan every few years, but no recent model has excited anyone outside of the company’s accountants. Now that the Corolla’s competition includes reloaded efforts from Ford with its new Focus and Dodge with the Dart—in addition to the competent Chevy Cruze, the stylish Hyundai Elantra, and the fine-driving Mazda 3—it looks even more dated than it did before.

Sky-high mpg is perhaps more important than ever, but the Corolla will need to offer more than just good EPA numbers to properly compete. Compact-car buyers today expect mid-size features and technology in a reasonably priced package. Doodads such as navigation, heated seats, and even self-parking systems are becoming prevalent in the segment. The current Corolla offers neither upmarket features nor an appropriately low price to overcome its lack of modern amenities.

Platform: From the look of the prototype in these spy photos, the Corolla likely will follow in the footsteps of the larger Camry and use an updated version of the current platform. Besides aping the Camry’s evolutionary platform strategy, the Corolla also will borrow heavily from that sedan’s styling. The taillights on this test car look nearly identical to the latest Camry’s units, while the Corolla’s front end incorporates several angular cues cribbed straight from its big brother. The car seen here shares its relatively high beltline with the current model, but manages to not appear dowdy and tall for it, at least in this armored look.

Powertrain: As did the recently redesigned Camry, we suspect the Corolla will carry over most of its powertrain stuff. The Corolla currently offers but a single engine—a 132-hp, 1.8-liter four—paired with either a five-speed manual or an outdated four-speed automatic. We wouldn’t be surprised if Toyota muscles the engine up a bit with some more power, although we hope that both transmissions benefit from more gears. A six-speed manual or automatic would bring the Corolla’s gearswappers into this century, and would help improve upon its already admirable fuel economy. The EPA rates the current stick-shift Corolla at 27 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway; the automatic is good for the same highway number, but sacrifices 1 mpg in the city. Not terribly shabby stuff for technology seemingly borrowed from 1983, but we expect Toyota will shoot for the magic 40-mpg mark with the 2014 Corolla.

Competition: Chevrolet Cruze, Dodge Dart, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3, Volkswagen Jetta.

Estimated Arrival Time: The next-gen Corolla should appear sometime next year as a 2014 model, which would keep the sedan in line with Toyota’s typical five-year product cycle.

Here is a more recent rendering of what the next Corolla may look like, based on what we've seen of the Camry and Rav4.

Toyota will unveil the next-generation Corolla Altis sedan next year, and according to Toyota and Scion USA vice president Bill Fay in an interview with WardsAuto, the new Toyota C-segment sedan will be a clear departure from the outgoing model.
According to Fay, the new Toyota Corolla will have an even more dramatic change than the recently-launched Toyota Avalon. The new Avalon is Toyota’s flagship sedan in the USA, one size up from the Camry. There were indeed big changes in the Avalon on both the exterior and interior. The Avalon now has a four door fastback coupe kind of look which reminds us of the Audi A7 from the side view, while the model it replaced looked like a bland giant Camry.
We can expect the new American market Corolla to be used in our region as the Corolla Altis, as that was the way it was for the last few generations. There is stiff competition in the C-segment scene these days in both terms of design as well as value for money in terms of equipment, but in Malaysia the Corolla Altis continues enjoy the promise of reliability and good resale value that the Toyota badge brings. Still, an edgier design wouldn’t hurt at all.

2013 TOYOTA COROLLA REVEALED

Toyota's all-new 2013 Toyota Corolla hatch , sold overseas as the Auris, has reportedly surfaced online in a series of leaked brochure images.

The vehicle shown in the scanned pages is a clear match for the camouflaged prototypes spied by TMR's photographers earlier this year.

Uncovered by website Noticias Automotivas, the images reveal an Auris-badged hatch that draws heavily on the look of the new Yaris light car and the Camry medium sedan.

As we could see on the spied cars, the new Corolla has been given an image overhaul, featuring a sharper face with a deep-V grill design and slender lighting at both ends.

The new 'rolla also benefits from a longer windscreen, contributing to a longer and more streamlined profile than the current model.

Inside, there's a mostly black dash design, with an uninterrupted top level and circular air vents. The gear shifter has also returned to the more traditional position in the now-separated centre console.

According to the leaked pages, the new Corolla is 30mm longer, with a roof 50mm lower than the current model.

The new Corolla will launch with a 1.8 litre petrol engine - likely an updated version of the engine offered with the current model - and a BMW-sourced diesel will be offered in some markets.

Details for the diesel have not been revealed, although we could expect to see a version of the 1.6 litre engine that drives the Mini Cooper D, originally sourced from Peugeot-Citroen.

In the Cooper D, the 1.6 litre diesel engine features direct injection and turbocharging, producing 82kW and 270Nm of torque.  Fuel consumption is listed at 3.8 l/100km - among the lowest figures of any car available in Australia.

In Australia, the new Corolla will tackle Hyundai's new i30 and the Ford Focus, and Toyota will be looking to the hatch's sportier style to battle the next Mazda3 - which will undoubtedly be sharper than the already segment-leading current model.

2013 Toyota Corolla Axio

Toyota Motor Co. is fitting new technologies into its redesigned 11th-generation Corolla as an attempt to give the compact car a more glamorous feel. The Japanese version of the Corolla will sport features like climate-controlled seats, safety belts with pre-tensioners, automatic high-beam headlamp dimmers as well as automatic interior lights. Toyota has started selling the Japanese version of the Corolla. However, it is still unclear whether the Japanese carmaker will also install those features in the overseas versions of the Corolla. However, Hiroya Fujita, chief engineer of the Japanese Corolla, remarked that the company wants to fit as many common parts as possible in all Corolla versions worldwide.

The Japanese version of the Corolla differs both in size and performance from the United States version of the nameplate. Also the two Corolla’s have separate chief engineers. Toyota is planning to announce the rollout schedule of the overseas versions of the Corolla next spring. According to Fujita, the US version of the Corolla will be powered by a 1.8-liter engine, while the Japanese variant is ran by a 1.5-liter powerplant.
Fujita remarked that the US version of the Corolla will be wider, longer and taller than the Japanese variant. Although both cars will sport similar interiors, they will don different exteriors, most notably the front fascia and grille. According to Fujita, stiffer competition in the global small-car market has prompted Toyota to make the improvements.

The Toyota Corolla sedan has been a mammoth success for the Japanese automaker over the years with the car consistently being the best selling model for decades together. A mixture of reliability, practicality and affordability have been the major factors that has led to the Corolla’s enduring success world over.  In the Indian market too, the Corolla has been a big seller, in fact the best selling D-segment sedan. Toyota has been selling facelifted version in the form of the Altis currently and this car is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. By 2013 though, the Corolla is set to get a major facelift.

The 2013 model of the next generation Corolla is expected to retain the dimensions of the current model. However, the styling could see a full revamp. The 2013 Corolla is expected to borrow design and styling cues from the Camry sedan. So, expect the Corolla to feature flatter headlamps and more grown up styling to appeal more to the European sensibilities. However, that isn’t to say that we’re going to have some design flair. From the speculative renderings that have surfaced onto the interweb, the 2013 Corolla looks as conservative(read boring) as it has ever been.

All the talk of Toyota going in for a complete reinvention of its design philosophy seems just that, mere talk. That said, the typical Corolla buyer, who will be in the 40s to 50s might still be pleased with Toyota’s latest effort as the conservative styling has been one factor that has been common to Corollas across generations. From the renderings, it seems that Toyota has given the new Corolla a grown up look with more edges than curves. Though a little boxy, the new design looks much better than the outgoing version although there will always be a line of thought berating Toyota for doing too little on the design front.

About a month ago, spy shots of an upcoming Corolla published by the Brazilian blog Notícias Automotivas triggered something unheard of: an auto manufacturer attempting to permanently bar a media outlet from mentioning its brand. Now other outlets are starting to push back. Is it worth it, Toyota?

At first sight, the letter written by lawyer Rosana Bermejo is so superficial it could be phony. It wastes several lines extolling the history and image of Toyota in Brazil until it gets to March 23rd, when a post on Noticias Automotivas presented pictures and details of the Toyota Corolla S, a version to be launched in Brazil in 2012.

According to Eber do Carmo, editor-in-chief of Noticias Automotivas, the post has been written after spy shots were sent by a reader, and accurate info obtained from sources in the plant. (The article has been removed, but it is still available in Google cache.)

In its notification (PDF), Toyota claims that this release constitues "unfair business practice" and that "such release is unfit and unauthorized, causing Toyota a huge damage, once the release of those images spoils the customer's expectation towards news about the product."

Hmmm. Below is the older rendition of the proposed 2012 Toyota Corolla, which I think looks alot better. I think the pic above has a lot of Civic in that front end.....
