There is no denying the fact that the terms ‘sub four metre’ and ‘diesel’ are the mantras for success in India. Cars that are under 4 meters long get an excise benefit of 12% over bigger cars.

Honda is rolling up its sleeves with the Brio sedan which is going to tick both the vital boxes. Yes, it’ll measure less than four metres long and will come with a diesel heart.

Honda is currently the only manufacturer in India to have a petrol-only product portfolio and one needn’t be an industry expert to tell that it’s suicidal if it stays that way. The cruel rise in petrol price ensured that the sales of the once popular Honda cars have plummeted.

However, Honda is preparing itself to recover from the nose dive with the Brio based sedan, codenamed Honda 2TP, which is expected to say hello sometime in the March 2013. The compact sedan which is yet to be named (we’ll stick to ‘Brio sedan’ until then) is a stick-a-boot-to-the-hatch exercise but we very well know that its a proven formula for India.

The Maruti Dzire, Tata Indigo, VW Vento, Skoda Rapid and Ford Fiesta are some examples of instant sedans.

At yesterday’s event to mark the commencement of exports for the India-made Brio, Honda officials apparently confirmed that the Brio sedan will get the company’s new 1.5 litre four cylinder diesel engine which is expected to carry the DNA of the 1.8 litre ‘Earth Dreams’ diesel engine. The same 1.5 litre unit will come to the rescue of the next gen City and Jazz models.

We expect the new oil burner to have better power output and refinement than the rivals. Given the long waiting period for the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda could position the Brio sedan at a slight premium and could even get away with it!

Apart form the Dzire, Honda will have the company of the Mahindra Verito CS which the company’s higher officials confirmed to IndianAutosBlog.com of a launch by the end of March 2013. So it’s game on then!

The compact sedan will be the first Indian Honda to burn diesel and will bear a heavy responsibility of bringing back Honda to the forefront of Indian automotive scene.

The Japanese automakers are known for their secrecy. Oh, and they even go to great lengths to put us off their new product trails by some imaginative word play. Today, we have what could be a big move from Honda, of that of a diesel engined Brio. A Team-Bhpian has reportedly spotted a Honda Brio diesel on the testing rounds in Gurgaon. The giveaways, according to the spotter was black smoke under acceleration and distinct diesel clatter, both trademark signs of a diesel engine. The car was also debadged, giving no hint as to what was nestling under the hood.

If indeed Honda has begun testing the diesel version of the Brio, it only augurs well for the embattled Japanese car brand, whose sales have been in the doldrums for quite a while in the Indian car market, given the petrol-only car models it has in its portfolio. Interestingly, the spotting comes at a time when petrol prices are at record highs in the country, with the prices having risen by the highest ever, in the history of India, when the Indian government, effected  price hike of INR 7.5 on every liter of petrol. So, petrol car sales could further dip with car buyers opting for the more frugal and economical diesel engined options.

Honda has clearly emphasized that it will not be launching a diesel variant of any of its cars in 2012. So, it could be 2013 and beyond when the likes of the Brio, Jazz and the City receive diesel engines. Honda, ushering in diesel engines on its cars is a move that is vital for the brand to survive and thrive in India, which has seen a paradigm shift in car buying patterns, favoring diesel cars, in recent years. Honda, thus far has been left behind in the diesel engine race, but with the spotting of the Brio Diesel, all that could change, and change very soon.

Honda has been developing a range of diesel engines to power its models such as the Jazz, Brio and the City. However, it comes as somewhat as a surprise that the brand has already begun testing one of its new generation diesel engines on the Brio. The brand showcased its latest generation 1.6 Liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engines meant for the Honda Civic sedan, quite recently. This engine, based on Honda’s EarthDreams technology, promises the best in class torque and fuel economy with the least tail pipe emissions. The rest of Honda’s diesel engine range can also be expected to carry on the “EarthDreams” philosophy.

The Honda Brio hatchback was launched and got temporary suspended!!.Honda announce that Brio hatcback is the company’s lowcost and smallest car.Build for developing countries like Asean and India.The car is slot beneath Jazz/fit and the prices will be affordable to anyone.The car also have great economy and less emissions.

The car sale was kick off first in Thailand a month ago.Many have test drive a car and reveal that the car have good engine Performance,Easy handling but speace and safety kit are limited.People also discussting that the car is over prices and too much cost saving.People dispraise rear window that cover by glass and question about safty,No rear Windshield wiper and lack of many things.

Last two week, Honda announced that it had to temporarily stop taking orders for the all-new Brio because of parts supply problems from Japan caused by the unfortunate incidents.No time frame release but insider source indicate that the car will be aviable agian next year.

Autoten only hope Honda will fix these disadvantages.

Many sources report that Honda is planing a sedan version of Brio in the next two year.The new sedans will join the existing five-door hatchback body.Autoten got render from the ophilus chin reveal a Brio with a boot.Look like a perfect proportion, better than others add boot job like Swift and Swift dzire(Sedan verion of Swift).Unfortunately is too early for autoten to say that the sedan will get makeover at rear or get entirely new skin. But our opinion is not bad if honda done like our render.

The car should have around 4.1 meter long.For powerpack,is borrow 4 cylinder 1.2 liter 90 hp at 6000 RMP and 110 Nm at 4800 RMP with 5 speed manual and CVT gear box.
