Honda Cars : Honda Launches Civic with New 1.6 Diesel in Romania | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

If you want to buy the car that everybody else drives, you buy a VW Golf. But if you're into creative design and interesting applications of modern technology, the new Honda Civic is your hatch.

Launched last year across Europe, it picks up from where the successful previews model left off, with even bolder design that would look at home on a concept car.

Honda's Romanian division has just launched the new 1.6 i-DTEC turbocharged diesel engine which we think is the pick of the range. The new engine developed under the Earth Dreams program is the sort of thing you fall in love with over time, using your head instead of your wallet.

Only naturally aspirated petrol engines and a larger 2.2-liter turbo diesel could be found in the Civic range up tip now, improved versions of the ones used by the old model. However, this new unit offers economy figures that could sell the Civic without the dealer having to lift a finger.

The new 1.6-liter turbo diesel was built from the ground up over a period of five years with the European market in mind. It produces 120 PS and 300 Nm of torque from 2,000rpm, emitting only 94 grams per kilometer of CO2, ideal for fleet Romanian buyers who are worried about taxation and unreasonably high gas prices.

Because of the smaller block, this engine is 50 kg lighter than the 2.2-liter unit. This reduced load over the front axle should make the Civic even crisper. Performance figures are also surprisingly good.

For example, a Hyundai i30 1.5 CRDi 128 has more power on paper than the Civic 1.5 i-DTEC, but is actually slower and less economical. The UK-built, Japanese hatchback takes just 10.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h. It's no sportscar, but for a 1.6 diesel that's impressive, and so is the top speed of 207 km/h. Yet all that pales in comparison with the economy figures: 4 liters /100 km in the city, 3.6 on the combined cycle, and only 3.3 if you let it stretch its legs on a highway.

Prices in Romania for the new Civic 1.6 i-DTEC 120 MT5 start at €18,588 including 24% VAT for the S model.

After making the announcement on the development of a new 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel engine at the Geneva Salon, Honda is now ready to show its smaller displacement oil burner on the latest Civic hatchback.

The 1.6-liter i-DTEC is the first engine in Europe to feature Honda's Earth Dreams Technology series (in North America, the automaker introduced the series with the new Accord's 2.4-liter petrol unit).

It is rated at 118HP (120PS) at 4,000 rpm and 300Nm (221.3 lb-ft) at 2,000 rpm with Honda stating that the Civic will return a combined consumption of just 3.6lt/100km (65.3 mpg US or 78.5 mpg UK) with CO2 emission of only 94 g/km (for cars with 16-inch wheels).

Together with the 1.6-liter i-DTEC Civic, Honda also plans to show the 2013 CR-Z Hybrid Coupe facelift, the EV-Ster Concept electric roadster, the European market CR-V and a special display with the an original first generation Civic at its Paris Motor Show stand.

Honda Cars : New 2012 Honda Civic sedan NOT coming to India? | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Wow, I thought the Civic was sold in every market that Honda was in....
The new 2012 Honda Civic that was launched in markets globally many months ago is apparently a no-show for the Indian car market. According to AutocarIndia Editor Hormazd Sorabjee, the Japanese automaker is not planning to launch the new Civic to replace the older model, that has been around in India for quite a while now. Honda’s reluctance to launch the new 2012 Civic sedan in India stems from the lack of a diesel engine in its portfolio. Also, the car has been a dud in many markets across the world, with critics vociferously panning the car for being a damp squib in terms of the update.

he excuse of not having a diesel engine though sounds quite lame, given the fact that Honda just unveiled the 1.6 Liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engine that was showcased a while ago, amidst much fanfare, given that it was first in the new range of diesel motors from Honda. This 1.6 Liter diesel engine, to be built in the United Kingdom, delivers 120 Bhp of peak power and 300 Nm of peak torque, along with class leading fuel economy and low tail pipe emissions. This very engine will be used on the 2012 Civic. However. Honda seems reluctant to launch the 2012 Civic diesel in India, for reasons best known to it.

So, that means that we’ll still have to wait many more months, for the 2013 Honda Civic, that the Japanese automaker has assiduously began developing, following the disappointing reaction to the 2012 Civic. However, with the current Civic becoming dated by the passing week, Honda will have a task at hand to push the car out of showroom shelves. Once a decent seller in India, the Civic, which was quite radical when it was first launched in India, has become a sluggard as it doesn’t have a diesel engine under its hood.

The 2012 Civic sedan that is sold in Europe has also been offered with a 2.2 Liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engine, that pumps out 148 Bhp and 350 Nm. While this engine has been around for quite a while in cars like the Accord and CR-V in Europe, Honda has been stating that it is not suitable to run on Indian diesel, thus refraining from launching diesel versions of the aforementioned cars in India. Needless to say, the lack of diesel engines in Honda’s Indian car range has cost the car maker dearly at the hustings.

Honda Cars : 2013 Honda Civic getting a Diesel?!? (Not for N.A.) | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

This doesn't look like it will be for us in North America, although it would be nice to have a limited edition of this car here.
David Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda UK spilled the beans on the compact diesel engine to a British publication Fleet News. The new Civic will hit the shores of Britain in January 2012 and within a year into its life, a new compact diesel engine option will be made available.

It is likely that this small diesel will be transplanted into the next generation Jazz which will bow in late 2013. However the currently running Jazz will not benefit from this development. Honda is developing a broad range of engines for Accord, Civic and Jazz, the report adds.

For overseas markets, Honda is mulling the 150bhp i-DTEC engine right from day one, but this engine might take the Civic’ price beyond acceptable levels in India.

Honda Cars : Honda UK to launch a 1.6L or 1.8L diesel for Civic, Accord and CR-V | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Better late than never. Finally Honda has decided to manufacture a new diesel engine which will power their luxury cars Civic, Accord and CR-V. Having manufactured just one diesel engine till date, the 2.4L which powered Accord, Honda did not miss diesel technology as they were probably happy with their popularity in manufacturing petrol engines. But times have changed. Customers today no longer believe that diesel powered cars are too different from their petrol counterparts. Instead diesel cars are more in demand than petrol cars today. This has forced the Japanese car maker to launch a new diesel engine for their luxury sedans and SUV. Mr David Hodgetts, MD, Honda UK, explained in an interview with Fleet News, that Honda will be launching their new diesel engine once their new Civic completes one year on road. So we can expect the new Honda diesel engine to be launched somewhere in 2013. No confirmation is available on whether Honda will be bringing this diesel engine to India. But, if we look at the exponential growth of the Indian auto industry, Honda will desperately want to launch diesel powered cars in India.
