The Honda Accord sedan has been named 2013 Canadian Car of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), beating out the Hyundai Elantra GT and Porsche Boxster.
Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year honours went to the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, edging out the Ford Escape, while the Porsche 911 Carrera S took the Best New Design prize from the Cadillac ATS and Porsche Boxster.
The list of three finalists in each category was pared down from nine vehicles that were crowned the winners of their individual categories in October at TestFest, which is the annual week-long car of the year testing event staged by AJAC every fall where the association’s journalist members drive and evaluate dozens of all-new vehicles split up into different segments.
Also at the awards presentation, General Motors was awarded the Best New Technology award for its centre airbag, which prevents front seat occupants from colliding with each other in the event of a side crash.
