Honda and Suzuki family sedans impress IIHS testers
The U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently rated 16 family sedans based on a new type of crash, and only the 2013 Honda Accord and Suzuki Kizashi were awarded the top “good” rating. The new test, dubbed “small overlap”, crashes the front corner of a car into a barrier at 40 mph (64.4 km/h). Only the Toyota Camry and Prius V scored the lowest “poor” rating. For both Toyotas, , the test crash caused “significant intrusion into the occupant compartment”. Keep in mind, the independent IIHS’s tests are separate from U.S. federal crash procedures.
