Honda Cars : Video: 2011 Mazda2 - Good, but not quite (Honda) Fit | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 7:03 AM

You know that the Honda FIT is a good car when it's used as a benchmark when comparing other good cars....

The subcompact Mazda2 isn't a bad car, but "not bad" isn't enough to take the world by storm. In today's competitive car market, there are plenty of really good cars to pick from.

Good fuel mileage is a big reason buyers go for small cars. The Mazda2 returned an average of 30 mpg overall with an automatic transmission and 33 with the manual in our testing. While that's not too shabby, it isn't outstanding these days. The larger and more comfortable Toyota Corolla compact returned 32 mpg overall in our tests with an automatic, and the midsize Hyundai Sonata GLS clocked in at 27 mpg overall.

Both of those cars are newer designs than the wee Mazda, and that's one of the 2's problems: Engine, transmission, and other technologies are advancing so fast that an older design just can't deliver the fuel economy of newer models. And the Mazda2 is an older design, having been on sale in Japan, Europe, and other markets for several years before being introduced to U.S. buyers earlier this year.

That leads to the other problem. There's good reason why carmakers bring certain models to certain markets and don't bring others. Roads, driving habits, and lifestyles vary tremendously around the world. The Mazda2 does not drive like it was designed for U.S. roads. That's because it wasn't.

The 2 is a kick to drive around town, zipping in and out of tight spaces and easy to park. On back roads, it's also entertaining to toss around. But the 2 isn't a fun cruiser. It's noisy on those highways we Americans rely on to get around so much, with a choppy ride, and it can feel a bit darty, requiring a lot of steering correction to stay on course.

Honda brought the subcompact Fit to our shores a few years ago, and it, too, was a design not intended for the U.S market. But with much more interior room and a clever folding rear seat that turns it into a mini cargo truck, the Fit has been a hit with American buyers. It's one of our top-Rated subcompacts.

The Mazda2 entered the increasingly crowded subcompact category as a contender and outscored some others in our testing. But it isn't as Fit as some others.

Honda Cars : Honda UK: 2011 Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 6:48 AM

Expect Honda’s all-new 2011 Civic 1.8 i-VTEC to have received interior and exterior revisions in order to raise its appeal to the current generation. Honda said that this model, which will be offered in European dealerships next year, will be available in several versions to be powered by 1.8 liter i-VTEC engines. Its interior layout and power output (140 hp) is unchanged but it will now offer more equipment as standard. The engine has a combined fuel consumption of 6.7 liters per 100 km (35.1 mpg) with CO2 emissions of 155 g/km. Buyers will also be given the same options: a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Its sprint time of 8.9 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) also remains the same. The five-door version of the 1.8 C-segment hatchback primarily features a new design of alloy wheels for the GT versions as well as a honeycomb front grille, which is now extended to the whole range. The interior features added Alcantara and leather on the seats as standard. The front spoiler and side skirts on the three-door Type S have the same color as the body.

In the older versions, these had only been offered as standard on the Absolute versions. Its other features include the following: SB / i-Pod, blue interior lighting floor, rear parking sensors, panoramic glass roof, dual zone climate control, cruise control, fog lights, light sensors and rain, alarm, electrically folding mirrors and xenon headlights with headlight washers. In five-door form (only available in GT spec), the revised Civic 1.8 i-VTEC is priced at €19,990 while a three-door hatch will cost €21,390.

Honda Cars : Turbocharged 1.6L Honda CRZ in the works | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 10:17 AM

Interesting....
Honda is set to provide its CR-Z with an all-new, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine option as part of plans to broaden the compact coupé’s appeal in key world markets, including the UK.
Currently available with just the one engine option — a hybrid that mates a 112bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 14bhp electric motor — the CR-Z is earmarked to receive an all-new turbocharged 1.6-litre powerplant that is currently undergoing development at Honda’s Tochigi R&D centre.

Honda Cars : Honda to Phase Out the Element | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 8:02 AM

Honda performed well in November, but this doesn't necessarily mean that all the models produced by the Japanese carmaker managed to exceed expectations. The Element for example remained the same not-attractive model we got used to, so the parent company decided to reconsider its future plans with this particular project. In fact, it seems like Honda has already decided Element's future: the car will be pushed out of production.

According to a report by AutoGuide, an official announcement on the matter is expected to be released today, but even without a confirmation, Honda seems to take the right decision. In the US, Honda sold a total of 939 Elements in November 2010, down from 1,017 units in the same month of the previous year.

To give you an idea on how low the Element sales have remained over the years, we must mention that the Accord, the company's best-seller in the US market, sold 19,025 units during the past month, up from 17,239 units in November 2009. For the sake of comparison, only 12,960 buyers chose the Element in the first eleven months of the year, while Honda Accord attracted a total of 279,000 people in the same period.

In the financial report rolled out yesterday, Honda has only praised the way both the Acura and the parent brand performed last month, saying that increased figures are expected to be registered by year end."

Our Acura Division sales continue to be strong, led by red hot year-to-date sales of our MDX and RDX SUVs," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "And with the newly released Odyssey minivan and CR-Z sport hybrid selling well, we look forward to a good year end."

As mentioned, Honda is expected to roll out an official announcement later today, so we'll keep you posted.

Honda Cars : Honda Civic remains number one in Canada | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 8:12 AM

By Alan McPhee, Special to The Daily News December 2, 2010

Now in its eighth generation, the Honda Civic has come a long way from the stubby sub-compact hatchback that landed on our shores in 1972. It was a revelation, with many industry-leading design and engineering features that would, over time, be copied by others. Over the years it has been steadily refined and improved, growing from sub-compact to compact, adding more performance, fuel efficiency and convenience features in response to customer needs. Since 1997 it has been the top-selling car in Canada, comfortably ahead of Mazda3, Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra.

The big difference today, is that that the Civic is available in no less than 9 different models -- five sedans and four coupes -- appealing to a diverse audience with different needs and desires. No other company offers a vehicle with so many choices. Today's Civic is leaner, cleaner, more sophisticated and, with nearly 40 years of development behind it, reliable as a hammer.

Honda Cars : What the?!? Subaru Badging over the Toyota Yaris? Trezia?!? | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 7:49 AM

Did not see this one coming.... gotta say though, looks alot better than the current Yaris.... Not sure if this is North America bound, but I don't see why it wouldn't be....
Meet the all-new Trezia, the latest in a long line of Toyota models turned into Subarus as part of the ongoing partnership between the two Japanese automakers. It's essentially a rebadged version of the Toyota Verso-S (called Ractis in Japan), which was introduced in Europe at this year's Paris Motor Show.

The differences between the Trezia and its Verso-S twin are limited only to the Impreza-like front grille, the chrome treatment on the tailgate trim and of course, Subaru's logos. Everything else, including the interior and even the alloy wheel and hub cover designs remain unchanged.

Like the Toyota Ractis in Japan, the Trezia will offer buyers a choice of a 1.3-liter or a 1.5-liter engines as well as front- or all-wheel drive layouts. Prices in Japan range from 1.36 million Yen to 1.87 million Yen.

Honda Cars : Rumour Alert: Next Gen Acura Integra?!? | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 7:29 AM

Not too sure what to think on this one, looks pretty much what a re-badged Civic Si would look like in Acura form (a la Acura CSX here in Canada -- only). Apparently from the source (www.vtec.net), there are concerns about whether or not the magazine "Holiday Auto" is just trying to sell papers.... Who knows, stranger things have happened....
