Honda Cars : New Nissan 370Z on way | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Powerful four-cylinder turbo to combine with lower weight for the next Nissan 370Z

The next Nissan Z-car will be lighter and smaller than the current 370Z, as Nissan seeks to make its flagship coupe more efficient and better to drive.

Nissan design boss Shiro Nakamura has been reported as saying the next-generation Z-car will have to be leaner in order to appeal to a wider range of buyers.

The new model is expected to drop its 3.7-litre V6 engine in favour of a powerful turbocharged four-cylinder. This, combined with lower weight, would give similar performance – 0-60mph in around six seconds – but greater efficiency, with lower CO2 emissions.

Nakamura has also been reported as saying that work has already started on a concept version of the new Z-car, and although no date has been specified, it could appear at a major motor show in 2014.

There had been speculation that Nissan would produce a replacement for the 200SX – in the shape of another coupe that would rival the Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ. However, with the Z-car going leaner and smaller, it will occupy this space in the range.

Honda Cars : 2014 Acura MDX Crossover Takes Shape In Europe | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 9:14 AM

Written by: Evan McCausland of www.automobilemag.com

Nearly six years have passed since the second-generation Acura MDX debuted, and a little more than two since it was overhauled and wrapped with a mild facelift. If it feels like high time for a new MDX, you’re in luck: an all-new model is just around the corner, and our spies caught an early Acura MDX prototype undergoing testing in Europe.

It’s hard to see much of the new MDX’s exterior styling in these photos, as the next-generation crossover wears both heavy cladding and makeshift head- and taillamp assemblies, but a few cues up front suggest Acura’s next three-row crossover will take a page from its new 2013 RDX compact crossover. Not only does the “beak” grille seem softer and a bit more conservative, but the lower edges of the tapered headlamp assemblies will be in line with the lower edge of the V-shaped grille. The lower front fascia, which presently boasts a smattering of unusual apertures and intakes, appears cleaner on this tester, and more in-step with that applied to the latest RDX.

Beneath the skin, expect the MDX to continue sharing its Accord-derived platform with both the Honda Pilot and Odyssey. Expect the MDX to retain six-cylinder power: we hear rumbling’s that a revised 3.5-liter V-6, revamped under the company’s Earth Dreams powertrain program, will gain direct fuel injection and a number of other tweaks to boost power and fuel economy. Early estimates suggest the V-6 could produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 310 hp, which is about 10 hp more than the current MDX’s 3.7-liter V-6.

We’ve heard rumblings that the MDX could adopt a ZF-sourced nine-speed automatic in the years to come, but there’s still a chance that the next-gen MDX could initially launch with the six-speed transmission it presently employs. Another unknown lies with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system: although the torque-shuffling driveline aids handling and is something of a hallmark, there’s a chance Acura could ditch it for a lighter, less expensive driveline. The automaker did just that when revamping its 2012 RDX, citing a lack of demand for the technology in this family-centric segment. It’s also fairly unlikely that the company’s new hybrid SH-AWD system, which will be used in both the upcoming RLX luxury sedan and the NSX sports coupe, will be used in this particular application.

These remaining details will likely emerge in due course – and we won’t have to wait all that long to see them unfold. The next-generation Acura MDX should make its public debut in late 2013, possibly even as a 2014 model year vehicle.

Honda Cars : Honda puts its head in the cloud | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 8:50 AM

By  Mike Bantick
HondaLink joins other - mostly German – vehicle manufacturer’s attempts at bringing the online world into our cars.  Social media, cloud based services and other applications streaming directly to the infotainment system.

Beginning in the 2013 Honda Accord, HondaLink will deliver a range of infotainment features that will appeal to many of today’s smartphone wielding brigade.

Combining the app driven smartphone way of life with a modern in-car infotainment system is all part of the service.  "Honda's strategy is about leveraging the cloud to bring a wealth of new information and services to Honda owners," said Charles Koch, American Honda manager of new business development. "This is the next evolution of the connected car and the connected customer."

In the US purchases of cars with HondaLink can expect a wealth of content available when they connect their iOS or Android based device.  "HondaLink will enable customers to put away their phone and still stay connected to the people, music and media they love," said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda. "By creating an intuitive and customizable user interface, HondaLink allows drivers to access digital content as easily as choosing a radio station."

Connecting the smartphone app to HondaLink enables content to be streamed, through the infotainment system of the vehicle.  You can enjoy digital content seamlessly from the device as well as streamed via the cloud, picking up from where you left off before the drive started, and book-marking the content when getting out of the car.

The Aha Radio service, which is part of the HondaLink package, is somewhat of a misnomer, providing more than radio as we commonly know it today.  The service includes access to favourite podcasts, internet radio, on-demand music, personalized traffic reports, restaurant recommendations, and audio updates from Facebook and Twitter.

But what of Australian consumers, diddled as we are by expensive data download plans (compared to most other similarly set up countries) as well as coverage issues inherent with a geography versus population mismatch as big as our horizon, how will HondaLink work locally?

Well don’t you worry about that, at this point in time Honda has no plans for HondaLink to be installed in cars shipped to and sold in Australia.  "HondaLink is a system set up by American Honda for customers in the United States,” company spokesperson Lindsay Smalley said “It is another great example of how Honda is taking a lead in investing in new technology. If there was such a system designed for Australia, we would definitely consider it."

Honda Cars : Carscoop: Honda Unleashes New Civic WTCC Racer with 1.6-liter Turbocharged Inline-Four | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 8:42 AM

The new 2012 Honda Civic WTCC has officially entered its final development stages as the Japanese carmaker presented the final exterior and began track testing of its FIA World Touring Car Championship racecar at the Vallelunga circuit, near Rome, Italy, following the car's ‘shakedown' on July 27 at the Vairano circuit near the J.A.S. Motorsport factory in Milan.

The Japanese carmaker's WTCC contender is based on the European market Civic hatchback and features a special aero package with an extended front and rear skirt and other additional aerodynamic elements such as the large rear wing.

But what makes this Civic really stand out from its production brethren is the bespoke 1.6-liter 4 cylinder direct injection turbocharged HR-412E petrol engine.

Honda has not released output numbers nor did it say if it has any plans to offer a turbocharged engine on its production models in the near future.

However, during the presentation of the turbocharged unit last week, Daisuke Horiuchi, WTCC Development Project Leader at Honda R&D said that, "We believe the innovations that have led to this revolutionary engine will also lead to benefits beyond the race track, helping us to further increase the efficiency of our road car engines."

Back to the racing model, Honda noted that testing would continue throughout the year with 2009 WTCC champion Gabriele Tarquini sitting behind the wheel.

"Although I'd never driven the new Civic before, funnily, when I sat in the seat for the first time I immediately felt I was in a Honda," said Tarquini.

"The body work is precise and the engine feels great. But this is just the first track test, so there is so much more for us to work on. The car looks beautiful too and will, I'm sure, wow all the WTCC fans around the world when it makes its debut in Suzuka later this year," he added.

Beginning at Suzuka in October this year, Honda will enter three races of the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship with one car, driven by Tiago Monteiro, as it prepares for full entry in 2013.

Honda Cars : Honda Considering S2000 Successor, Future Models Plan Revealed | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 12:36 PM

The Honda S2000 was one of the most appreciated models in the Japanese carmaker’s history and now it looks like the company is pondering a successor for the sports car, with the model being its response to the Toyota GT86, SUbaru BRZ and Scion FR-S triplets.

It looks like Honda US product planners are asking for the car to be built, while their counterparts from Japan don’t see the project as being so important. This is because Honda has a much bigger plan that will see multiple models be facelifted or receive new generation in the following years, as the company wants to completely transform its range.

It all starts with the new Civic, which will be revamped this fall following negative test drive conclusions, with the car set to receive multiple interior changes. In the fall we’ll also get the 2013 Accord, a new generation that will use two new Earth Dream units: a 181 hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and a 314 hp 3.5-liter V6.

2013 will see Honda launch a new generation of the Crosstour, which will ,of course, be closely related to the Accord. One year later, Honda will introduce a new Ridgeline and Pilot, which are expected to lose the angular styling cues of the present generations. In 2015, the automotive producer is scheduled to give the world a fresh Insight, as well as a crossover that will use the Fit as a starting point.

Honda Cars : The Future of Honda; CVTs, new engine family will reshape Honda line | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 9:55 AM

This is a spyshot of the upcoming 2013 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid.
by  Mark Rechtin of www.autonews.com

Honda's new Earth Dreams engine family will debut in the redesigned Accord this fall and then trickle through the rest of the lineup.

The new engines have direct injection and double-overhead cams. They will produce at least a 10 percent fuel economy advantage over Honda's current four-cylinders.

Earth Dreams engines will be added as each vehicle is redesigned, and in some cases will be available for mid-cycle revisions. Even the base four-cylinder will have a twin-cam profile setup, variable valve timing and direct injection. And there also is talk of bringing a 1.6-liter diesel with 220 pounds-feet of torque to the United States.

Honda also is putting heavy emphasis on continuously variable transmissions. While performance models and off-road vehicles will retain geared transmissions, mainstream cars will have CVTs.

With the introduction of Honda's large-car hybrid powertrain system next year, more vehicles in the lineup will have a hybrid option.

Here's a look at Honda's product plans:

Fit: Europe gets a hybrid version, but Honda has canceled plans for a Fit hybrid in North America.
A redesign of the Fit comes in summer of 2014. Because Honda will have a dedicated plant in Mexico to handle Fit production for the United States, expect some local market design cues and features that won't appear in the Japanese or European models. But Honda might not wait until then to install the Earth Dreams 1.5-liter inline-four with 127 hp and 111 pounds-feet of torque, as well as a CVT.

Fit EV: The electric version of the Fit went on sale this summer with an EPA-rated equivalent of 118 mpg. But its range is just 82 miles. Packaging the battery pack was difficult, so expect the next Fit to have a different suspension module for the hybrid and EV versions.

Insight: No word on whether the nickel-metal hydride battery pack will swap out for lithium ion before the 2015-model redesign.

Civic: Terrible reviews of the Civic's interior plastics have prompted a major freshening for this fall, just 18 months after launch. Expect a big improvement in the tactile feel of the instrument panel. A 1.8-liter inline-four Earth Dreams engine with 148 hp and 133 pounds-feet of torque, mated to a CVT, could be installed in the spring 2014 midcycle change.

CR-Z: A higher-performance CR-Z supposedly was on the way. But with the punishing yen exchange rate jacking up the price, that version may not reach the United States.

S2000: Honda hasn't had a proper sports car since the S2000 went away in 2009. The early success of the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ have American Honda product planners angling for a competitive model. But it is not a priority in Japan.

Accord: A redesign for the sedan and coupe comes this fall. The current Accord was considered too large, so expect a slightly narrower version that's about two or three inches shorter. The wheelbase may stay the same.
This will be the first Honda model with Earth Dreams engines. The base engine is a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder with 181 hp, 177 pounds-feet of torque and much-improved fuel economy. The Accord will have a CVT as its only four-cylinder automatic offering. The V-6 Accord will have a choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
Honda is placing a major emphasis on crash safety, as well as such devices as a lane-departure warning system. The Accord also will be the first vehicle with Honda's new large-car hybrid system. Engineers say the four-cylinder plug-in hybrid will have a 2.0-liter engine teamed with a lithium ion battery pack and will easily beat the Toyota Camry Hybrid's 41 mpg.

Crosstour: A midcycle change in the 2013 model year will bring a six-speed automatic transmission but not an Earth Dreams engine.

FCX Clarity: Honda's hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle is trickling into Southern California garages as part of a test for an eventual launch in 2018.

CR-V: Redesigned for the 2013 model year.

Fit Crossover: According to Japanese press reports, Honda is studying a compact crossover that would slot below the CR-V. Honda's top U.S. manufacturing executive has said the plant in Mexico that will produce the Fit will have flexibility to build multiple variants for the North American market when it opens in 2014. Given Honda's typical factory ramp-up timing, that probably means a smaller, entry-level crossover will arrive in the United States in the spring of 2015 as a 2016 model.

Pilot: A full redesign on the shared Odyssey platform comes in fall of 2014, and sheet metal will move away from the "angry robot" look. It likely will get a 3.5-liter Earth Dreams V-6 with around 310 hp and 265 pounds-feet of torque. Expect the front-wheel-drive version to have a CVT and the all-wheel-drive version to get a six-speed automatic transmission.

Odyssey: The minivan was redesigned in fall 2010 on a six-year cycle. That means the 3.5-liter Earth Dreams V-6 probably will be incorporated during the 2014 model year.

Ridgeline: Honda's pickup will keep the Ridgeline name but won't look or feel the same when it is redesigned in 2014. Honda wants to keep the handling dynamics and packaging, but the styling, fuel economy and sticker price are weaknesses.
