Honda Cars : Acura/Honda ZDX? | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Burlapp's found another good pic, this time of what looks like the ACURA ZDX with a Honda badge. Some people are going to think that this is going to be the new Accord Wagon, but I'm going to say that the lines are pretty much identical to the photo's below of the upcoming Acura Concept (ZDX). For those that don't know, Acura is pretty much North American only, and if the car comes out in Japan or UK, it will be badged a Honda, so the 'H' does make sense.

The above photo is from Acura which is a 'teaser' of what the concept is going to look like.
Above is a photo taken in good ol' Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was seen presumably being tested for cold weather climate effectiveness.

Honda Cars : Henderson to take over as GM chief | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

By Bernard Simon in New York
Published: March 30 2009 14:10 Last updated: March 30 2009 14:10

General Motors announced on Monday that Fritz Henderson, the beleaguered US carmaker’s president and chief operating officer, will replace Rick Wagoner as chief executive, and that a majority of its directors will be replaced.

Mr Wagoner stepped down on Sunday at the request of the White House as part of the widening shake-up at GM, which was the world’s biggest carmaker until last year but is now dependent on government aid for its survival.

Kent Kresa, chairman emeritus of Northrop Grumman, the US aerospace group, has been named GM’s interim non-executive chairman. Mr Wagoner had been executive chairman.

Mr Kresa said in a statement that the board had “recognised for some time that the company’s restructuring will likely cause a significant change in the stockholders… and create the need for new directors with additional skills and experience”.

He added that the board intended to nominate a slate of directors at the next annual meeting, due to be held in August, that would include a majority of new board members.

No decision has yet been taken on which individuals will be nominated or will choose to leave the board.

Mr Henderson, 50, has worked for GM since 1984. Prior to his appointment as chief operating officer, he was chief financial officer and, earlier, head of GM Europe.

In a valedictory statement, Mr Wagoner, 56, said that “GM is a great company with a storied history. Ignore the doubters because I know it is also a company with a great future.”

Honda Cars : Honda Insight hitting U.S. dealerships now | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

March 2009

According to Kicking Tires, the new 2010 Honda Insight is now beginning to hit dealerships across the United States as we speak. A quick phone call to my own local dealership revealed two shiny new hybrid hatchbacks ready to drive off the lot. That's the good news. The bad news (it's not that bad, don't worry) is that there aren't that many to choose from in the United States just yet.

An inventory check on Cars.com shows that there are exactly 478 2010 Honda Insights for sale from all U.S. dealerships, which isn't all that many. Prices range from the base model's $19,800 starting price all the way up to $25,678 for what's surely a well-equipped model. Honda is expecting high demand for the new vehicle and we've heard production in Japan is running at full steam, so we'd expect inventory levels to rise here in the States in short order.

Honda Cars : GM, Chrysler to get additional short-term aid | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

March 2009

David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will provide General Motors Corp. with short-term "working capital" as it conducts additional restructuring, while providing short-term aid to Chrysler LLC as it works to complete a tie-up with Fiat SpA.

Obama told four key Michigan members of Congress during a Sunday night conference call that he would grant unspecified additional aid to GM for 60 days and Chrysler for 30 days, according to a person familiar with the call.

Obama said GM Chief Operating Officer Fritz Henderson would take over the automaker on an interim basis and that no management changes at Chrysler were forthcoming.

The White House demanded and received GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner's resignation as part of the aid request.

The call included Sen. Carl Levin, D-Detroit, and Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing as well as Rep. Sander Levin, D-Royal Oak, and Rep. John Dingell, D-Dearborn.

UPDATE: Early reports indicate that Chrysler will receive $6 billion in federal aid and over the course of the 30 days, Chrysler will likely give up a 35% stake to Fiat.

Honda Cars : HONDA SHINES BRIGHT IN NEW TV AD TO SUPPORT AFFORDABLE HYBRID CAR | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 7:45 AM
March 2009
March 2009

Honda will debut its latest TV ad ‘Let it Shine' in April to support the launch of its new hybrid car, the Insight. The advert is part of an integrated marketing campaign to work towards the company's aim of environmental leadership across the EMEAR* region by 2015.

The 60, 30, 20 and 15-second TV spots marks the global launch of the all-new Insight - the most affordable hybrid on the market - which aims to make cleaner car technology accessible to a wider audience. The new Insight goes on sale at the start of April in most of Europe.

The advert opens on what appears to be the world's largest LED screen displaying an animated sequence of simple dot matrix graphic stories that depict the notion of ‘good'. The animations show hugs and kisses, frowns turned into smiles, and general goodwill - all aiming to convey people's inherent wish to be good. As the animation plays it is slowly revealed to the viewer that it is actually being created entirely by the headlights of hundreds of Honda Insight cars. The spectacle is set to a bespoke recorded version of ‘This Little Light of Mine' created by Berend Dubbe.

‘Let it Shine' has been created by Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam for use across Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia. The European debut of ‘Let it Shine' takes place on March 28 in Belgium.

The campaign extends Honda's strategy of continuing to be at the forefront in environmental technologies and communications. This new approach underpins a communications plan which will run alongside the expansion of Honda's hybrid range with a coupe based on the CR-Z concept and a Jazz hybrid set to join the new Insight and existing Civic Hybrid in the next two years.

Chris Brown, Head of Marketing for Honda Motor Europe comments: "We would like to become the most admired company in the world, and to do this we need to have the most admired brand and communications across our region, EMEAR. This is a continuation of our journey."

This latest campaign is truly integrated; with print, outdoor and digital in addition to TV. The theme ‘Everyone Wants to Be Good' is incorporated throughout, as well as the iconic ‘Honda Eco' flower - a visual cue to the ‘Eco Assist' system within the Insight which encourages and rewards efficient driving.

In the end, although the team discovered that the idea was logistically feasible, they were concerned about the carbon footprint that a shoot of that magnitude would leave. After doing the work to see what was possible W+K and Honda made a conscious decision to look at a more environmentally friendly alternative. The result was a fusion of modelling software for animation, a small number of Insight vehicles for scale and a few hundred Insight headlights. The vehicles and headlights were precisely spaced and wired together while a specially created computer program created the two separate halves of the animations. These animation halves were subsequently married together in post-production.

This approach allowed the team to greatly reduce the carbon footprint of the shoot. To further limit carbon output they relied on vehicles already located in South Africa, grouped shipments of props and lights as much as possible, and mandated group transportation of personnel to and from shoot. For further good measure, the shoot's carbon output that could not be prevented was entirely offset through carbon credits purchased through the Carbon-Neutral Company's Unity Portfolio.

‘Let it Shine' was directed by Erik van Wyk and creative directed by Jeff Kling, John Norman and Sue Anderson. It debuts across Europe in April and will be shown in 14 countries initially.
First air date is Belgium on 28th March.

Honda Cars : MotorTrend: Comparison: 2010 Honda Insight vs 2010 Toyota Prius | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 7:19 AM
March 2009
March 2009

Here's a little snipet of the article, btw, it's a really good read even if you're not thinking of buying one.

"But which is the more important hybrid? That leads us back to the issue of price. Although the Prius will eventually entail such far-reaching technologies as lithium batteries and possibly plug-in capability, that's in the future. Not now. And when these two go on sale, the price spread is likely to be at least $3000.
Starting at just over $20,000, the 41-mpg Insight is the first hybrid that's simultaneously within the reach of just about every pocketbook and also a solid business proposition for its builder. Amazingly, it delivers nearly identical mileage as the current Prius at about 85 percent of the price. The incremental value of 50 mpg versus 41 mpg -- whether you judge it by gasoline cost, greater national security, or CO2 reduction -- seems dwarfed by the benefit of its potential sales volume. It's a milestone that can't go unnoticed.
1ST PLACE HONDA INSIGHT
An imperfect car, loud and coarse-riding, and also perhaps the most important hybrid ever built.

2ND PLACE TOYOTA PRIUS
The world's best hybrid has become more solid and refined, yet has somehow upped its fuel economy as well. It's an engineering triumph for the textbooks.

Honda Cars : IIHS adds new rating for roof strength | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 6:55 AM
March 2009
March 2009

Above are some pic's I picked up from Autoblog.com on the same test, the last one is of the poor Kia. Yikes!

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) created a roof strength rating system to help customers assess a vehicle's safeness. Roof strength is critical to keeping passengers alive and in the car in the event of a rollover accident, according to a press release issued by the IIHS. The stronger the roof, the less likely it will deform.

More than 10,000 people die in rollover-related accidents. While any vehicle can roll in a crash, SUVs are three times as likely to roll in an accident than a passenger car.
To earn a good rating, the vehicle must have a roof that is more than twice as strong as minimum federal safety standards requirement.
IIHS evaluated 12 2008-2009 SUV models, and found that the Volkswagen Tiguan, Subaru Forester, Honda Element, and Jeep Patriot earn good ratings--the institute's highest rating. Earning an "acceptable" rating were the Suzuki Grand Vitara, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, and Mitsubishi Outlander. However, the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape--two of the most popular crossover SUV--roofs rated "marginal," and the Kia Sportage earned a "poor" rating.

Honda Cars : Toyota reviving Celica name for joint Subaru RWD car | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

March 2009

Everytime I hear something like this it gets me excited about the idea of Honda bringing back the Prelude to compete. Like I said, here's to wishfull thinking....
http://bestscoops.blogspot.com/2007/08/heres-to-wishfull-thinking-2010-honda.html

The last report about the on again/off again sports car being developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru was that it's on again. Today comes word from L'Automobile in France that not only is the rear-wheel-drive Toyubaru going to happen, but it will arrive bearing the Celica name sometime in 2010. If Wikipedia is to be believed, this would be the eighth generation of the Celica, which traces its roots all the way back to 1970 when it debuted in Japan as an inexpensive rear-wheel-drive sports car. Through the years it switched to front- and all-wheel drive, with the final seventh generation Celica sold from 2000 - 2005 being a strict cart puller. L'Automobile claims that Thierry Dombreval, Toyota's VP of sales and marketing in France, spilled the beans on reviving the Celica name, so we won't consider this news solid until a second source comes forward or Toyota officially confirms it, neither of which is likely to happen. So for now all you Celica fans should just sit tight and light a few candles for your cause.

Honda Cars : Vtec.net: Some "MSX" tidbits through the vendor grapevine | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

March 2009

Straight from Vtec.net, don't forget to follow the link to get a glimpse of a really good rendering of what this MSX might look like....

"We have received a bit of info on Acura's new sport crossover today. This information has reportedly been relayed to vendors who are supplying components for the project. At the moment we cannot ascertain how legitimate the information is, so take it at face value for now. The information confirms that the "MSX" (this is what these folks are calling it, not sure if that's what it really will be called) will be launched at the upcoming New York International Auto Show. Also indicated is a production start date of March 30, 2009 at the Alliston, Ontario plant.

Supposedly Acura was initially asking for pricing quotes based upon an annual production run of around 100,000 units, but they will actually be building them at a rate of around 80 per day (20,000/year). These sources indicate that the "MSX" will be priced "well above the MDX". As has been long suspected, the only thing currently on the table for the powertrain is a V6 with "over 300hp" (that sounds like another 3.7L V6 to me). The onsale date has tentatively been set for late May/early June.

UPDATE: In case you missed it in the comments below, TOV member "Siegen" has given us permission to display this composite image he created of the MSX. "

Still having problems loading images right now. New MR2? That would be nice!

Toyota is developing an exciting performance hybrid which would revive the much loved sports car and rival Honda’s upcoming CR-Z. It’s set to swap its predecessor’s roadster shape for that of a compact coupé. Under the skin will be a rear-wheel-drive chassis, a paddleshift gearbox and a specially developed version of the Prius’s hybrid powertrain.

The new model will boast an amazing blend of performance, economy and low emissions, all wrapped up in a stunning body. It would be a fitting successor to the MR2, which ceased production in 2007.

Honda Cars : Faceoff: 2009 Ford Flex v. 2009 Honda Pilot | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 7:19 AM
March 2009
March 2009

How does the 2009 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year stack up against the segment leader?

With its mix of haute couture style and funky functionality, the new Ford Flex beat out the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the Subaru Forester to take the 2009 Automobile Journalists Association of Canada’s Utility Vehicle of the Year award.

Second place: 2009 Ford Flex Limited AWD
Congrats to Ford. Well done. No doubt the Flex makes a big styling statement compared to Ford's previous crossover attempts -- the bland 2005 Freestyle and slightly less bland '08 Taurus X. But when it comes to good ol' fashioned value -- what should be a high priority for buyers in this class -- how does Ford's latest crossover hold up against what some consider the established leader in its segment, the also new for '09 Honda Pilot.

Another new Ford product based off the first-generation Volvo S80 chassis, the stylish six- or seven-passenger Flex crossover is in theory a replacement for the long-gone Ford Freestar/Windstar minivan.

Pricing starts at $35,499 for a seven-passenger front-wheel drive Flex SEL. Our tester was a fully loaded Limited with part-time all-wheel drive. With an overly large sunroof ($1,700), towing package ($500), navigation system ($2,500), DVD player ($1,200) and $500 for the Mini Cooper-mimicking white roof, the finally tally came to $49,399 -- $521 less than the similarly equipped Pilot.

Style and room
Beyond the Flex's hip-to-be-square design, the main interior benefits over the eight-passenger Pilot are second-row legroom and overall headroom. Being 277 mm longer than the Honda, there's 148 mm more room for the two second-row occupants to stretch their legs out. Moving to the top-of-the-line Flex Limited deletes the middle second-row seating position found in lesser models, turning it into a three-row, six-seater. At least those second-row captain's chairs are heated.

In terms of style -- like the contrast in the two vehicles' exterior designs -- the Flex's interior is like the Vegas strip compared to the subdued cabin of the Pilot. There's enough fake chrome, aluminum and wood that a Lincoln badge wouldn't look out of place on the rump of the Ford.

The highway is its home
Performance isn't really a priority in this class, which is a good thing. Both crossovers are powered by 3.5-litre V6s. The Flex's mill has a bit more horsepower than the Pilot (262 to 250), yet less torque (248 to 253 lb.-ft.) Both weigh in with around 2,100 kg, and consume in the neighbourhood of 13.0L/100 km in the city, and 9.0L on the highway. And both have the ability to tow around 2,000 kg. So its no surprise the pair of these quasi-minivans are equal in the run up to 100 km/h, in the nine-second range.

On paper, the Ford's six-speed, automatic transmission (versus only five in the Honda) should give an advantage. But it's been tuned for soft shifts at the expense of responsiveness. And "soft" is also the adjective here when it comes to how the Flex responds as a driver's car -- both on and off the road.

The Flex is happiest cruising in a straight line on the highway, delivering a comfortable and quiet ride. But when the road turns twisty, the Ford feels like the limo it's trying to be -- it is too slow and reluctant in taking commands from the helm. And where that extra length helps interior room and ride comfort, the Flex simply can't go where the shorter Honda (with its shorter overhangs) can travel once the pavement runs out.

Has form trumped function?

If you're smitten by the 2009 Ford Flex Limited AWD's unique looks, only need room for six, and never intend to travel off the beaten path, go with the Flex. But we think there's another large crossover that's an even better value...

Buy this car if ... you want a minivan that looks like a Mini Cooper; you want limo-like rear legroom; you have to spend all day cruising highways.

Don't buy this car if ... you want a responsive and agile utility vehicle; you want to go into the woods; you need eight seats.

First place: 2009 Honda Pilot Touring

If style isn't at the top of your large crossover priority list, Honda's stodgy looking yet practical second-generation Pilot not only offers one more seat than the Flex, it's also a better drive both on and off the pavement.

The offspring of a luxury crossover father (Acura MDX) and a minivan mother (Honda Odyssey), Honda's first generation Pilot was born in the summer of 2002 as a 2003 model. Six years later, Honda hasn't drastically altered the Pilot's split minivan SUV DNA for its new '09 model.

As the top-line Pilot model (base front-drive models start at $36,820) the part-time all-wheel-drive $49,920 Touring comes only one way -- loaded. In addition to the typical "power everything," and leather this 'n that, highlights include a navigation system with French and English voice recognition, de rigueur rear DVD system (with headphones), a power tailgate, and a trailer hitch and harness, heavy-duty radiator, oil cooler and limited slip differential for towing.

Forget length -- it's the width that counts

If not offering as much second-row rear legroom as the Flex, the Pilot offers more shoulder and hip room. Its extra width means three can sit relatively comfortably in both back rows. Plus there's a bit more cargo room out back: 589 litres versus 566 L in the Ford.

With acres of black plastic, there's not as much interior bling as in the Ford. But in the spirit of Apple's original mint-and-white iMacs, the Pilot Touring's driver's instrumentation features a floating needle design with a white background.

Unfortunately -- and typical of many U.S.-designed Hondas -- its centre control stack is ridiculously festooned with too many buttons of the same shape and size.

A family hauler with all the right moves, both on- and off-road

A buttoned-down chassis and solid body structure make the new Pilot a much more rewarding car to drive than the softly tuned and loose-feeling Flex. Without the wallowing found in the Ford, the Honda feels almost European its suspension tuning -- firm, but not too harsh. Steering with more feel and cornering with less lateral roll are quickly noticed. In back-to-back corners, the Pilot feels more planted due to its 36 mm wider front- and 26 mm wider rear-wheel tracks.

But what really separates the Pilot from the Flex is its outstanding off-road capabilities. Features normally found on vehicles with Land Rover badges -- like hill-start assist (which sends maximum torque to the rear wheels at speeds up to 30 km/h), four-wheel-lock, and shorter front and rear overhangs -- means this Honda isn't afraid to get its shiny alloys dirty.

Is this the best value in large crossovers?

OK, the Pilot's no Jeep Wrangler when it comes to tackling serious off-road terrain. For instance, there's no low transmission range. But at speeds up to 30 km/h, a push of a button directs maximum torque to the rear wheels (up to 70-per cent depending on the amount of tire slip), which can also help out in deep snow.

Knowing these limitations, the 2009 Honda Pilot Touring is still a nice compromise between the refined driving qualities of a crossover and the rugged off-road capabilities of an SUV. All around, the new Honda is an impressive effort. Impressive enough, in this shootout to beat this year's Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year.

Buy this car if ... you want plenty of room for eight passengers and their gear; you want a large crossover that's not afraid of a twisty road; you want to go further off-road than your gravel laneway.

Don't buy this car if ... you favour good looks over function.

Not bad, the worst thing they say about the Pilot is the style and that is completely subjective!

Honda Cars : Honda Motor Co. reportedly denied trademark for "Acura RL" | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 6:11 AM
March 2009
March 2009

In what appears to be a classic case of sweating the small stuff, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board have refused to grant Honda a trademark for the term, "Acura RL," which, as we're sure you are aware, is the name of the luxury firm's flagship model. From what we can tell, this means that the Japanese automaker does not hold a trademark for the car's complete name.

The reasons given make sense from a technical standpoint, as the TTAB's response to Honda's appeal states that "we find that the likely impression here is that ACURA is the trademark for a line (or "make") of cars, while RL is a trademark for a particular "model" of that line."Well, yeah. Acura is the make and RL is the model -- we're in agreement on that one. The differing viewpoints stem from the fact that Honda was unwilling or unable to provide proper evidence to the board that the words "Acura" and "RL" appear close enough together on the car, its manuals or its marketing materials to warrant its own trademark. Nitpick much? Thanks for the tip, Kevin! - Source is www.autoblog.com

Honda Cars : Could this be Honda's CR-Z in production form? | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

March 2009

Well, don't know where Mr. Burlapp dug this up (he's always been great at finding stuff like this), but it's interesting none the less. Looks a lot like the Honda S3000 that was to be proposed to replace the S2000. If anything, I think it could be what the CR-Z could end up looking like in it's (close to) production form, although Honda has squashed any ideas of a convertible CR-Z last I heard.

Toyota Develops World's 1st Rear-seat Center Airbag

Tokyo - TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces it has developed a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) rear-seat center airbag-the first*1 in the world-to help reduce the severity of secondary injuries incurred by rear-seat passengers in a side-on collision.

The new airbag is fitted in a large, fixed, rear-seat center console that comes in a version of a Toyota model to be launched in Japan in the near future. When the vehicle is hit side-on, the airbag deploys from the top of the console to act as a barrier that helps lessen injuries caused by passengers colliding with each other or into the console.

TMC has continued to actively develop and make available its collision safety technologies-including its early commercialization of SRS curtain shield and knee airbags-to enable its vehicles to better respond to a wider range of accidents.

TMC, as a part of its efforts to realize sustainable mobility, intends to strengthen its traffic safety initiatives in the future through: 1) the development of even safer vehicles and technologies based on TMC's Integrated Safety Management Concept*2, 2) participation in the creation of a safe traffic environment, and 3) activities designed to teach people about traffic safety, thereby contributing to the complete elimination of traffic casualties, which can be viewed as the ultimate hope of a society that values mobility.

*1 According to TMC research, as of February 28, 2009
*2 TMC's safety technology and vehicle development concept, which, by combining safety technologies and systems to provide optimal driving support, aims to successfully develop vehicles that do not cause accidents

Honda Cars : Chrysler threatens to pull out of Canada | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Chrysler LLC says it may no longer be able to operate in Canada unless Ottawa loans the company billions of dollars and workers agree to massive wage cuts.

Chrysler president and vice chairman Tom LaSorda told MPs Wednesday the company is seeking US$2.3 billion from the Canadian government -- roughly a quarter of what it's asking from the White House.

He also said Canada's tax agency must agree to not demand more cash or collateral in a tax fight with the company. The Canada Revenue Agency is withholding $300 million in tax rebated and has put a $500-million lien on Chrysler's Brampton plant.

"The current success and long-term viability of Chrysler's manufacturing operations in Canada is very much dependent on (those) three critical factors," he told a committee hearing.

"Chrysler LLC cannot afford to manufacture products in a jurisdiction that in uncompetitive relative to other automotive jurisdictions."

New Democrat MP Joe Coartin, a member of the parliamentary committee that heard LaSorda's comments, dismissed them as little more than posturing.

"The bottom line is that Chrysler does not function in the United States without Canada," he said.

Chrysler Canada and its parent company, Chrysler LLC, have had their sales hammered by the economic downturn. Its sales were down 27 per cent in February compared to last year and it has asked Ottawa for a $1 billion in emergency loans as it works on its restructuring plan.

LaSorda said his company's labour costs are $70 an hour in wages and benefits for both current workers and retirees. He says it needs to be cut by $20 to be competitive.

Just last week, Chrysler announced it would be cutting 1,200 jobs in Windsor, Ont., by eliminating the third shift at its minivan assembly plant.

The Windsor plant produces the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans and has about 4,450 hourly workers. It is the company's only supplier on minivans as two other minivan plants have been shut down in the U.S.

LaSorda said that the company could move the Windsor plant to either of the other sites they previously shut down.

The Dodge Grand Caravan was Canada's No. 3 best selling vehicle in February.

Analysts say Chrysler is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. On top of the most recent job cut announcements, it has slashed about 32,000 jobs to staunch the financial bleeding, and has cut production levels by 30 per cent.

The all-new 2010 Honda Insight (click here for our mega gallery) will go on sale in the USA on March 24 with a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $19,800, or $2,200 less than the current Toyota Prius that starts from $22,000, but will soon be replaced by the third generation model -see here. Honda's five-passenger, five-door dedicated hybrid is powered by an Integrated Motor Assist system comprised of a 1.3-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine and a 10kW electric motor that together contribute to an EPA-estimated city/highway fuel economy rating of 40/43 mpg.

"The all-new Honda Insight brings the cost of entry for hybrid technology within closer reach of an entirely new car-shopping audience," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda.

The new Insight will be offered in the U.S. with a choice of three trims, the LX, the EX and the EX with Navi.

The entry-level LX, priced at $19,800, comes with front, front-side and side-curtain airbags, an anti-lock braking system, a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), Eco Assist, automatic climate control, tilt and telescope steering column, manual driver's seat height adjustment, power windows, a four-speaker AM/FM audio system with CD player and auxiliary audio input for external digital music players, as standard.

Honda Cars : New Acura Crossover Spied! | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

March 2009

Below are the previous spyshots taken awhile ago.
"The last time that we saw this vehicle, it was caught circulating the Nürburgring wearing a lot more camo than this example, and it's widely believed to be a new crossover from Acura. So far, Acura hasn't actually given any public indication that this machine even exists or is planned. Nonetheless, it's wearing all the contemporary Acura styling cues and the Nürburgring pics clearly showed the shield grille through the camo.

This particular example was snapped by an alert AB reader while it was evidently conducting cold weather testing in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. Judging by the reduced amount of camouflage on this unit, it's probably getting close to a public launch, and we're guessing that with its pronounced slope-back, it will have BMW's controversial X6 and Infiniti's FX softroader squarely in its sights. Thanks to Jeff for the awesome tip!"

Honda Cars : American Honda to Test Hybrid Diesel Electric Truck | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 7:40 AM
March 2009
March 2009

As part of its ongoing effort to reduce its global carbon dioxide footprint and fuel consumption, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., of Torrance, Calif., introduced a Class 8 hybrid diesel electric truck into its fleet at its parts center in Alpharetta, Ga., according to a March 6 press release. Built for Honda by Peterbilt Motors Company, the Smartway(SM)-certified Model 386 hybrid truck is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 45 tons per year, as compared to its diesel counterpart.

Honda uses Class 8 trucks to transport service parts between its parts centers and dealerships. The company's diesel truck fleet, operated by its truck fleet partner, UPS Freight Truckload, typically travels 300,000 miles per day.

The hybrid truck will be used along two routes — a hilly route in Tennessee and a relatively flat one in Georgia — in order to evaluate the truck's fuel economy under various driving conditions. Honda will alternate the hybrid with a standard diesel truck and will collect data using engine telematics to accurately compare the performance of the two trucks on the same routes. Testing and evaluation will take place over the next year. "We're excited to add this environmentally advanced truck to our fleet," said Jim Roach, senior vice president of Parts and Service. "With our truck fleet driving hundreds of thousands of miles per day, we feel this is a great opportunity for Honda to further reduce its carbon footprint." The hybrid truck operates much like a hybrid passenger vehicle, utilizing a parallel diesel-electric hybrid system developed by Eaton Corporation. Similar to Honda's hybrid vehicles, Peterbilt's truck captures energy during braking and stores it in its system's batteries. The system also improves fuel efficiency and lowers emissions by powering the heating, air conditioning, and vehicle electrical systems utilizing a no idle auxiliary power unit while the engine is off.

In addition, Honda will soon be adding a Peterbilt Class 7 medium duty hybrid truck at its parts centers in Irving, Texas, and Alpharetta, Ga.

Honda Cars : Honda's hybrid selling well | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

The Insight starts at 1.89 million yen (S$29,500) in Japan and will sell for under US$20,000 (S$30,800) in the US, the cheapest hybrid on the commercial market. -- PHOTO: AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE

TOKYO - ORDERS for the hybrid Insight have totalled 18,000 since it hit the Japanese auto market about a month ago, outpacing Honda's target and underlining the success of the new affordable and ecological vehicle, the company said on Tuesday.

The brisk demand for the gas-electric hybrid is a rare piece of good news for Honda Motor Co. as the auto industry grapples with plunging global demand. Honda, Japan's second biggest automaker, was hoping for the Insight's monthly sales to reach 5,000 vehicles.

The Insight starts at 1.89 million yen (S$29,500) in Japan and will sell for under US$20,000 (S$30,800) in the US, the cheapest hybrid on the commercial market. The Insight goes on sale in April in the US, and March in Europe.

Oil prices have tumbled from their peak last July, detracting from the possible appeal of gas-sipping hybrids. But the Insight is drawing a wide-range of buyers to the showroom, according to Tokyo-based Honda The Insight was the top-selling hybrid for February in the ranking of new vehicle registrations in Japan, totaling 4,906, or No. 10 among all hybrid and regular models, even though it wasn't on sale for the full month.

That outpaced the Prius hybrid from Toyota Motor Corp, at No. 12, with 4,524 registered for the month, and cumulatively the best-selling hybrid model.

Details of the Insight's overseas pricing are still being finalised. But it's cheaper than the Prius, at US$22,000 in the US and 2.3 million yen in Japan.

Toyota, which sold 285,700 Prius cars worldwide last year, is introducing a remodelled Prius in May, which is bigger and has a more powerful engine than the current Prius, and likely to be more expensive.

Japanese media have speculated that Toyota may continue selling the old Prius even after the remodeled version goes on sale - an unusual move for an automaker - to compete against the cheaper Insight.

Toyota has refused to comment on the report. But it is almost certain that the competition among hybrid offerings will intensify this year.

Last month, Honda chose a new president and chief executive Takanobu Ito, who has a career in engineering, to press ahead with innovations and prepare for long-term growth. -- AP

Honda Cars : LEGO Honda S2000 | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

March 2009
March 2009

I like it!
"This car was comissioned by a woman as a gift for her boyfriend, who owns a Honda S2000. To be true to his car, she requested it be created with a special light-blue exterior and dark blue interior. There aren't a lot of LEGO elements in these rare colors, so Sean had to design the model with a somewhat limited palette of parts.

Three cars were built in total ... the dark blue car was the original prototype, the light blue car was the commissioned sculpture, and the yellow one was an extra one Sean made for himself. (It so happens that a yellow Honda S2000 was Sean's "dream car" for many years!)"
