OUR TAKE: It says a lot about a car when you are heel-and-toe downshifting for every turn you approach while just driving around town. That is exactly what the S2000 inspires.
This CR ratchets the thrills up a notch over the base car with its stiffened chassis, more aggressive suspension tuning, quicker steering rack ratio and weight reduction. The result is a dialed-in track star that oozes refinement, from the slick unity of shifter and clutch pedal to the high-revving inline-four to its inherently balanced handling characteristics.
Going down a few gears to set up for a turn is simple work with one of the best gearboxes on the market and the engine's instant throttle response to match revs. Through the corner, the chassis communicates well, letting the driver know exactly what's going on with impressive grip from the aggressive Bridgestone tires. Eliminate stability control and you can kick the back end around at will.
Steering weight and response are spot-on, and the firm brake pedal gives you the confidence to get on them late to slow things down. Some might think that the stiffer chassis and suspension would be a nightmare for daily driving, but it's not. Over train tracks and moderate road problems, the CR is still fine. It's rougher than your average Civic, but it's not like it beats you up, either.
