Well, courtesy of www.handa-accessories.com comes some accessory pic's of the new 2009 Honda Element, now giving us some 'insight' into the new SC Trim level as well. Looks like Honda is now going towards a new corporate grill (a la Ridgeline and Pilot). The interior pretty much is the same as the previous 2008 model. I speculate that these models to land in the showrooms for late October or early November.

I have to give credit where credit is due, http://www.elementownersclub.com/ member 'Atomic E' scanned a picture from a 2009 product brochure. So there we have it, the revised front grill and quite possibly a revised rear end. Honda says that they are changing up the interior as well, although I wouldn't expect a dramatic difference.

Here's what I know about the 2009 Honda Element's for Canada so far;

2009 Honda Element LX Automatic Transmission
-there is NO model code representing a Manual Transmission, this does not mean that there won't be one, it could be that Honda Canada has not updated their model codes for ordering, but it does make me suspect as to whether or not there will be a Manual Transmission.
-NO model code to distinguish a 2WD and a 4WD as of yet, although I expect the LX to be 2WD only.
Colour Codes(so far);
B-536P Deep Blue
NH-700M Silver
NH-731P Black
YR-579M Orange

2009 Honda Element SC Automatic Transmission
-again, NO model code representing a Manual Transmission.
-again, I expect the same as last year, only a 2WD model.
Colour Codes (so far);
B-536P Deep Blue
NH-700M Silver
NH-731P Black
R-536P Deep Red

2009 Honda Element EX Automatic Transmission
-again, NO model code representing a Manual Transmission.
-I expect the EX to be the 4WD, although there are no specifics.
Colour Codes are the same as the LX

Honda Cars : SHORT STINT: 2008 Honda S2000 CR | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 3:22 PM

September 2008

Drivetrain: 2.2-liter I4
RWD six-speed manualOutput: 237 hp @ 7,800 rpm, 162 lb-ft @ 6,800 rpm
Curb weight: 2,813 lb
Fuel economy (EPA/AW): 21/25.3 mpg (US Gallons)
Options: None

OUR TAKE: It says a lot about a car when you are heel-and-toe downshifting for every turn you approach while just driving around town. That is exactly what the S2000 inspires.

This CR ratchets the thrills up a notch over the base car with its stiffened chassis, more aggressive suspension tuning, quicker steering rack ratio and weight reduction. The result is a dialed-in track star that oozes refinement, from the slick unity of shifter and clutch pedal to the high-revving inline-four to its inherently balanced handling characteristics.

Going down a few gears to set up for a turn is simple work with one of the best gearboxes on the market and the engine's instant throttle response to match revs. Through the corner, the chassis communicates well, letting the driver know exactly what's going on with impressive grip from the aggressive Bridgestone tires. Eliminate stability control and you can kick the back end around at will.

Steering weight and response are spot-on, and the firm brake pedal gives you the confidence to get on them late to slow things down. Some might think that the stiffer chassis and suspension would be a nightmare for daily driving, but it's not. Over train tracks and moderate road problems, the CR is still fine. It's rougher than your average Civic, but it's not like it beats you up, either.

Yeah, you read right....

Bet you never thought you’d see a Honda Civic IMA Hybrid in the air like the one in featured in the picture above. Of course, this isn’t your ordinary hybrid but a race prepped version of the eco-friendly Civic created by Oaktec. The Lancashire based company has been developing the Honda Hybrid system for motorsport since 2004. Oaktec took part in several rallies around the UK winning the F1000 Class A Championship in 2006 with a Honda Insight. Now Oaktec has joined forces with Lotus to develop the performance of a Civic Hybrid for rallying and circuit racing.

Though no details on the car’s specifications have been revealed yet, Phil Barker, Chief Engineer of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technologies at Lotus said that the British automaker will work with Oaktec to create a revised electrical specification for more power and a control system that will allow a more aggressive regenerative braking strategy.

Paul Andrews, Senior Partner of Oaktec said: “Maximizing racetrack performance from a hybrid drivetrain is a complex technical exercise but one that Lotus Engineering has the experience and expertise to help us deliver. We look forward to seeing our success on the rally tracks replicated in the race circuits. We will be breaking new ground with the project when Gavan Kershaw of Lotus Engineering and Jamie Corstorphine of Autocar magazine will race our Honda Civic Hybrid for the first time in the Dunlop Max Sport Cup at Rockingham circuit on 28th September.”

Honda Cars : Big Brother comes to the Automotive World by 2012; Man Cancels Order on Nissan GT-R | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 5:54 AM
September 2008
September 2008

This kind of accident-investigation scene, tapping into the car's EDR and downloading crash-related data to a laptop computer, will become far more prevalent as black boxes proliferate in 2012 and beyond.
Until a few weeks ago, Florida attorney Scott Weires was eagerly awaiting delivery of his new Nissan GT-R. But in late August, Weires canceled his order--not because he doesn't want the $82,000 Super Silver supercar he has lusted for since it was first unveiled as a concept seven years ago. Weires says he's uncomfortable with the fact that every GT-R has a recording device strapped to its chassis, an electronic black box that monitors how each owner drives his or her GT-R.

Similar so-called black boxes, or electronic data recorders (EDRs), are now standard equipment in a majority of passenger cars and light-duty trucks sold in the United States. Wired into airbag sensors, yaw and stability sensors, antilock brake and traction controllers, electronic throttle controls and engine monitors, EDRs soon will collect a bewildering amount of data in keeping with pending federal regulations aimed at standardizing information available from the devices. Those regulations, finalized earlier this year and set to go into effect Sept. 1, 2012 (on 2013-model-year vehicles), specify exactly how much and what types of information must be collected and saved electronically in the event of a crash or airbag deployment.

Though the U.S. Department of Trans-portation requirements don't mandate installation of EDRs on every car, truck and sport-utility vehicle in America, the rules do require compliance with the guidelines if the vehicle is fitted with an EDR by the manufacturer. In 2006, the National High-way Traffic Safety Administration reported that 64 percent of manufacturers were equipping vehicles with EDRs, a number the agency says hasn't radically changed. But an informal survey indicates that most automakers--with some notable exceptions--are embracing the devices. And that number seems to have grown in the four years since AutoWeek last investigated the state of automotive black boxes ("Under the Hood, with Big Brother," Nov. 8, 2004).

As a result, most of today's late-model vehicles are equipped with EDRs, ostensibly to help manufacturers engineer better safety equipment in vehicles by analyzing data collected in crashes. In reality, what started as a simple tool for safety engineers is now a key component that provides data to protect companies from safety-related lawsuits and to assist law-enforcement officials investigating car accidents.

While an EDR may seem onerous enough to those who love a spirited drive in a sports car, it was another kind of black box, a vehicle status data recorder (VSDR), that put Weires at odds with Nissan and his GT-R.

Unlike an EDR, which activates only when sensors indicate that a crash is imminent or has occurred, Nissan's VSDR runs constantly, collecting information such as wheel and engine speed. The device, thought to be a first in the automotive industry, stores more than a few days' but less than a week's worth of data on the vehicle's operation, Nissan says. The VSDR cannot be deactivated.

In technical information provided to buyers, Nissan says the VSDR does not record sounds or images but "always records and stores vehicle-operating data between periodic inspections, which can assist and be used for servicing, diagnosing and performing warranty repairs."

Nissan says the VSDR isn't intended to spy on unsuspecting GT-R drivers but is needed to help mechanics and engineers monitor the performance of various onboard systems in the highly advanced car.

It's that part about "warranty repairs" that has Weires worried. He says data collected by the VSDR could allow Nissan arbitrarily to invalidate all or part of the car's warranty. For instance, Nissan specifically warns owners that they could void warranty protection by running a car with its vehicle dynamic control (VDC), governing traction and stability, turned off. (In fairness to Nissan, the owner's manual does allow owners to defeat VDC when wheelspin is needed to rock a car that's stuck in snow or mud.)

"These warranty issues are a little unsettling," said Weires. "That was a huge part of my decision."

Nissan officials are quick to clarify that VSDR data would be used only as a secondary way to verify that a car had been abused or raced. And only the damaged part might not be covered by warranty; a record of hard use wouldn't invalidate the warranty for the entire car.

Honda Cars : Edmunds Inside Line: 2009 Honda FIT Full Review | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

September 2008
September 2008

Now Fit for America
By Chris Walton, Chief Road Test EditorDate posted: 2008-09-22 21:00:00.0

"It reminds me of last year's Fit without being last year's Fit." That's how Photo Editor Kurt Niebuhr described the 2009 Honda Fit Sport with Navigation. And he should know, since he logged thousands of miles in our 2007 Honda Fit Sport long-term test car in the course of various photo assignments.

And once you count the number of changes made to the 2008 Honda Fit, you discover that the 2009 Fit is as all-new as a car can be without being labeled all-new. The improvements include new sheet metal, new chassis structure, new interior, new engine block, new valvetrain, new electronics, new features and new options.

Unlike some product updates, the Fit version 2.0 manages to retain all the things we loved about the space- and fuel-efficient little wedge, while deleting those flaws that frustrated us.

A Worm Hole Comes Standard
The Honda Fit has always seemed like a car that is outside the boundaries of Euclidean geometry because it feels much larger on the inside than its exterior dimensions suggest. Now the all-new interior of the 2009 Honda Fit manages to carve out even a little more room for both passengers and stuff while growing almost imperceptibly on the outside.

Ever more slender roof pillars, wheels even farther toward the corners of the car, and a windshield pushed farther forward have all netted both real and perceived gains in interior roominess. The tape measure says the occupants of the rear seat enjoy the benefits of this growth spurt most, as even an inch or two back there makes a noticeable difference.

Another benefit of this larger footprint is that the second-row seatback now has enough room to flop forward to make a flat cargo floor without having to slide either of the first-row seats — a measure introduced last year as a result of customer complaints about the 2007 Fit. But don't fret, as the seat bottoms still flip up to accommodate items as tall as 50 inches through the rear doors. Meanwhile, the liftover height of the rear hatch has been lowered to an easy-on-the-back 24 inches.

The reshaped front seats are more comfortable, but what's even better is the improvement in the overall driving position, especially for tall people. First, the steering wheel now tilts and telescopes. The throttle pedal has been angled to move fore and aft instead of up and down, a far more natural movement when you're sitting farther back from the steering wheel. The footwell is larger and there's a dead pedal to rest your left foot on while cruising. All that's really needed now is a height-adjustable driver seat.

It's How You Use It
The specifications tell you the 2009 Honda Fit's 1.5-liter inline-4 engine makes only 1 more pound-foot of torque at its maximum of 106 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm, but it's everywhere else in the rev range where the Fit's engine feels more responsive.

Where the previous version of the engine felt lethargic and in need of revs to motivate this 2,500-pound car, the new Fit inline-4 gets with the program from as low as 2,000 rpm. It's easier to drive more of the time, so you no longer feel the need to rev the Swiss out of it.

The low-effort action of the cable-type shift linkage of the five-speed manual transmission remains a model of excellence, offering the same precisely located gates and generally cooperative mechanicals. Neither the shifter nor the clutch pedal feels fragile or limp, even when hurried.

Small Car, Big Ride
The 1.0 version of the Fit would dance and wiggle over anything but the smoothest roads. The new car gains a measure of stability from a wheelbase that's 1.9 inches longer and a track that's 1.4 inches wider in front and 1 inch wider in the rear. In addition, the suspension geometry has been changed to offer more stability while the components have been tuned for a more comfortable ride. This also results in improved composure around sweeping turns, so we don't feel as if constant vigilance is required anymore.

The revised electric-assist power steering still feels light in effort by any standard, but now it reminds us of a Civic Si instead of a CR-V, and that's a good thing. Maybe the adaptation of the Civic Si's steering wheel to the new 2009 Fit helps, too.

The brakes are now easier to modulate and offer a more intuitive pedal feel, even if our car's stopping distances were longer than the last Fit Sport we tested. Thank the new brake master cylinder and the standard electronic brakeforce distribution for the added feel.

Taken as a whole, the engine, steering, braking and ride characteristics of the 2009 Fit have all been calmed down, so there's no implied, expected or perceived dynamic compromise in driving a small car. Even a novice driver would choose the 2009 Honda Fit over the car it replaces simply for the effortless way it drives.

Anomaly or Fuel Economy Trade-off?
Some laws of physics can't be ignored, so while the 2009 Honda Fit is more powerful, it's also a little slower and fractionally less efficient. Fuel economy has dropped 1 mpg in both the city and highway EPA estimates. Our mixed driving average produced 30 mpg, which is 1 mpg better than the EPA's estimate of the car's combined average.

Though the 1.5-liter engine's output has risen to 117 horsepower at 6,600 rpm (an improvement from 109 hp at 5,800 rpm), our acceleration testing didn't prove the 2009 Fit Sport as quick as its predecessors. It runs to 60 mph in 10.2 seconds (9.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip) and covers the quarter-mile in 17.3 seconds at 79 mph. This performance compares with our 2007 Fit Sport, which reached 60 mph in 9.4 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 16.8 seconds at 79.8 mph. Although there have been changes to the ratios of the five-speed manual transmission to accommodate the new, taller 16-inch tires of the 2009 Fit Sport, the overall gearing remains effectively unchanged, so we're not sure what the explanation for this performance might be.

Meanwhile, the new 185/55R16 Bridgestone Turanza EL470 tires are narrower than the Sport's former 195/55R15 Dunlop SP37s, so there's a little less grip. Our best stop of 134 feet is longer than average for such a small, light car, and we suspect the 10 feet of additional stopping distance compared to our 2007 Fit is largely due to the tire swap.

Around the skid pad, the '09 Fit Sport managed to hang on to the asphalt with 0.78g of grip and ran between the slalom cones at an average speed of 64.1 mph, which compares to the previous car's 0.79g and 66.3-mph performances.

Upgrading the Experience
Navigation systems are becoming nearly expected these days, so naturally the Fit incorporates one that's operated through a 6.5-inch touchscreen with voice activation. And since electronic stability systems will soon be mandated on all passenger cars, the 2009 Honda Fit Sport has one (although the base model does not).

There's a new USB connector for audio devices in addition to the aux jack that was already in place. Illuminated steering-wheel audio controls are now included in the Fit Sport and, are you ready for this? Driver and passenger vanity mirrors plus map lights are standard on the Fit Sport! Honda often pinches pennies on details like this, so their inclusion is more significant than you might think.

It's the Right Time To Be Fit
When the Fit first arrived here in late 2006 as an '07 model, gas prices were about $2.30 per gallon and there didn't seem to be much of a compelling proposition for such a Japan-centric small car as the Fit. But now that gasoline peaked above $4 per gallon this summer, Honda ran out of its allotment of 85,000 Fits by September. Honda took a chance with its little car, and it paid off big.

The 2009 Honda Fit now fits our recently tightened American budgets, our ever varying cargo and passenger needs, and finally our 95th-percentile biometric bodies. This car is plainly not built to win races; instead, it's built to squeeze as much efficiency as possible out of every gallon of gas and every cubic foot of interior volume.

For the money, the 2009 Honda Fit Sport is the best small car for sale in the U.S. for most people.

Honda Cars : Next Gen Honda S2000 Speculation, The Honda S3000?!? | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

Unknown | 9:02 AM
September 2008
September 2008

A typhoon of rumors has been swirling around Honda's headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, about the company's next generation of sports cars. While we have already seen spy photos of the future NSX, we have not seen anything about the next-generation S2000. A source close to the company revealed that Honda is indeed in the process of building such a car, but wouldn't disclose specific details.

The OSM (Open Study Model) concept car definitely raised some eyebrows recently at the London show, but that car was just a convertible version of the CR-Z hybrid sports car shown at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. The OSM was penned by Honda's European design team, and our people tell us that the real S2000 successor will have much more influence and input from Japan. Also, the CR-Z and OSM have been engineered as front-engine/front-wheel-drive models, and the S2000 successor will no doubt be a rear-wheel-drive car. So apparently the OSM has nothing to do with the S2000 successor. Or does it...?

There's the possibility that the OSM may very well be a design study of the next S2000, wearing the veil of an open-top CR-Z to throw us off. There was also a sighting of a mysterious prototype sports car near Honda's R&D headquarters in Japan that seemed to share the OSM's proportions, yet looked completely different. Could this be another design study of the S2000? We think so, so we took pieces of that car, melded it with the OSM and came up with this image, a handsome car with an Audi R8-esque face, a long hood and a profile reminiscent of the current S2000.

As for what will go under the hood is still unclear. There have been rumors that Honda may equip the car with a V-6, perhaps a new 3.0-liter or the 3.5-liter in the Acura TL, thus the name S3000. In the U.S., this makes sense because it would give the car much more low-end torque (something we Americans love), not to mention improved smoothness and quietness for freeway driving.

With such an engine, you can expect power to be in the 280- to 300-bhp vicinity, enabling a 0–60 run in the sub-5-second range. The more probable choice is a 2.2- to 2.5-liter inline-4. Honda, which has traditionally shied away from big-displacement powerplants, may feel that a 4-cylinder engine makes more marketing sense in this age of high gasoline prices. There's also talk of a simple hybrid system.

Only those directly involved with the next-generation S2000 project know for sure what the car will be like. We'll know for sure in 2011, after Honda releases the NSX and CR-Z.

Honda Cars : Honda Civic 'Musical Road' | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

September 2008

This strip of road in Lancaster, California is one of only a handful of roads in the world that will "sing" as you drive over it. The music comes from the noise made by tires passing over a series of carefully cut groves in the road's surface. Now local residents want it all to be paved over, just because not everyone drives a Honda Civic at exactly the right speed.

Made by Honda as part of an upcoming advertising campaign, the road's incredibly out-of-tune rendition of "The William Tell Overture" (you might know it as the theme from The Lone Ranger) attracted tourists but annoyed locals to no end. Honda states that the road was tuned specifically to the tires and wheelbase of a Civic, so that may explain why it sounds so terrible in this video. We're thinking that the neighbors living about a half mile away and can't get to sleep at night from the racket really don't care to hear it at all.

Honda Cars : Honda, Citing Battery Limits, Avoids Rush to Plug-Ins | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews 0

September 2008

Masaaki Kato, president of Research and Development at Honda Motor Company, stands for a photo in the company's North American headquarters in Torrance, California, on Sept. 12, 2008. Photographer: Jonathan Alcorn/Bloomberg News

By Alan Ohnsman

Sept. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Honda Motor Co., first to lease hydrogen autos to U.S. drivers, said batteries haven't advanced enough to make rechargeable cars a good replacement for gasoline models and isn't following rivals who plan to sell plug-ins.

"For battery-powered vehicles to become more widespread, more popular in the market, we feel battery technology needs to advance further,'' said Masaaki Kato, president of Honda's research unit, in an interview at the Tokyo-based company's U.S. headquarters. Expectations for plug-ins are big and ``we don't know that that could be sustained right now,'' he said.

Honda is bucking an industry move toward lithium-ion batteries as record-high U.S. fuel prices this year and climate change concerns over carbon dioxide push carmakers to develop alternatives to gasoline power.

General Motors Corp. sparked interest in a new generation of electric cars with its Volt, a sedan due by 2010 that will travel 40 miles solely on lithium-ion batteries before needing a recharge. Toyota Motor Corp., Japan's largest automaker, and No. 3 Nissan Motor Co. are also readying small electric cars powered only by batteries.

A production version of GM's plug-in Volt is to be shown tomorrow in Detroit.

"GM and Toyota are slugging it out for attention as technology leaders in this area,'' said Phil Gott, a powertrain analyst for market forecaster Global Insight Inc. in Lexington, Massachusetts. "Honda doesn't want to get in the middle of that. They've also been fast to market with many technologies, and don't have anything to prove right now.''

'Impossible to Imagine'

Vehicles using lithium-ion power wouldn't satisfy most consumers, since such batteries are costly and still hold less than half the energy of gasoline by weight, Kato said.

"We just don't see it providing the type of driving performance you get with a gasoline-powered vehicle,'' Kato said Sept. 12 in Torrance, California, speaking through a translator.

For example, the Japanese government's advanced battery development program has a goal of boosting energy storage capacity by seven times and cutting cost to 2.5 percent of the current level, said Kato, who is also senior managing director for Japan's second-largest automaker.

"That gives you a pretty clear example of what type of gap we're facing relative to a gasoline vehicle,'' he said. "At this point, I'd say it's impossible to imagine a date at which such a breakthrough could occur.''

Refining Fuel-Cell System

While Honda may offer a plug-in at some point, for now it will continue refining the fuel-cell system in its new hydrogen- powered FCX Clarity sedan, Kato said. Based on advances the company has made with the vehicle, including improving range to 280 miles, ``we believe it's easier than battery innovation,'' Kato said.

Such a choice isn't unusual for Honda, said Michael Omotoso, powertrain analyst for market-research firm J.D. Power & Associates in Troy, Michigan.

"This fits in with their reputation for conservative product decisions,'' Omotoso said. ``They opted not to offer V-8 engines and stayed out of big trucks, and they're doing well this year because they focused more on small cars.''

Honda brings the best hope for the future by introducing the World's First Hydrogen powered Fuel Cell car, the FCX Clarity. Honda says that it plans to produce a total of about 200 Clarity models during the next three years. It projects that it will cost close to $1 million to manufacture each car.

Built on the all-new Honda V-Flow fuel cell platform and powered by a highly compact, powerful, and efficient new Honda V Flow fuel cell stack, the FCX Clarity marks the significant progress Honda continues to make in advancing the real-world performance and appeal of the hydrogen fuel cell car.

This hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicle is propelled by an electric motor that runs on electricity generated in the fuel cell. The vehicle's only emission is water, and its fuel efficiency is three times that of a modern gasoline-powered vehicle. The electric motor generates 127 horsepower and it can produce more electricity than needed to power all the gadgetry found in the vehicle.

This new hydrogen car has significant improvements over Honda's previous generation FCX. The powertrain on this next-generation FCX Clarity are listed here:

• Is over 397 pounds lighter
• Has 120% better power-to-weight ratio
• Is 20% more fuel efficient
• Has a powertrain that is 45% more compact and 10% more energy-efficient

This new model has a lower floor and sleeker overall design, integrating the more compact stack with a smaller powertrain. Its thin A-pillars allow better visibility. A flat-bottom underbody reduces aerodynamic drag and increases efficiency.

The FCX Clarity offers the amenities of a luxury sedan including limousine-like cabin volume, a new lighter lithium ion battery pack, electric steering, a climate control system within the seats to minimize energy use, Honda bio-fabric upholstery, rear camera, floating/layered instrument panel, XM satellite radio, thermo-electrically heated and cooled seats, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control and a navigation system.

Developing cleaner products is not a new mandate for Honda. Coupled with world-class quality and technology, Honda has routinely incorporated environmentally-focused features into its products for more than 40 years. A few examples include:

* Since 1964 Honda has manufactured only four-stroke outboard motors. Cleaner, more fuel-efficient and quieter than traditional two-stroke outboards, four-stroke motors also do not release oil directly into the water;

* In 1972 Honda introduced the Controlled Vortex Combustion Chamber (CVCC) engine. The CVCC was the first automobile engine capable of meeting the 1970 Clean Air Act without the weight, cost, and complexity of a catalytic converter;

* In 1997 Honda entered the handheld power-equipment market with a noticeably quiet and fuel-efficient trimmer/brush cutter powered by the world’s first 360-degree inclinable mini-four-stroke engine;

* In 1998 Honda became the first company to introduce an entire line of high-performance outboard motors that met the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) year 2006 emission standards;

* In 2000 Honda became the first auto company to receive the EPA’s Climate Protection Award for development of the Honda Insight, the first gas-electric hybrid vehicle sold in the United States;

* In 2002 Honda became the first automaker in the world to market a fuel cell vehicle certified by the U.S. EPA and the state of California. The 2005 Honda FCX also features its own fuel cell stack capable of cold weather operation;

* In 2003 Honda introduced the HRX lawnmower, the first to enable simultaneous distribution of grass clippings to both the bag and the ground with no additional equipment. Whether the user chooses to mulch, compost or dispose of the bagged clippings, all of the options provided by the HRX are better for the environment than conventional clipping disposal.

The Honda Environment Statement
As a responsible member of society determined to help preserve the global environment, Honda makes concerted efforts to contribute to human health and preservation of the global environment in each phase of its corporate activities and to stay at the forefront of such endeavors.
