Honda Cars : 2009 Vehicle Manufacturer Recall List | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
I think that some of this news should be taken with a 'grain of salt', you have to look at each manufacturer's recalls in association to how many vehicles they have in their lineup, Toyota has what, 18 different vehicles just here in Canada, where as Mazda has only 9!
WASHINGTON -- In a first, Toyota led the U.S. auto industry in recalled vehicles this year, thanks to its largest safety-related problem since it began selling vehicles in the United States.
The Japanese automaker has struggled with the fallout from the recall of 4.3 million Toyota and Lexus models for unintended acceleration linked to fatal crashes.
Toyota told federal officials earlier this month it would start fixing the vehicles now, but some repairs would not be ready until March.
According to a Free Press analysis of federal data, automakers recalled 15.2 million vehicles in 2009, a sharp jump from 8.6 million in 2008.
Safety recalls have generally declined in recent years as automakers catch problems earlier, but the totals can fluctuate widely with one or two big problems.
All three Detroit automakers also saw their count of recalled vehicles rise in 2009, even as they caught problems earlier in production.
Nearly all of Ford's recalled models were tied to one longstanding problem with cruise control switches; absent it, the company would have hit a record low.
Recalls tied to variety of safety woes
From misplaced labels and faulty seat-belt reminder buzzers to engine fires and broken wheels, the 117 recalls from automakers in 2009 covered a vast range of safety-related problems.
Such problems are as close as the federal government comes to tracking the quality of cars and trucks, and in years past have mirrored the quality scores from outlets such as Consumer Reports.
While automakers have stepped up their monitoring to catch problems quickly, those that get through can affect millions of consumers because of the industry's practice of sharing parts across more models.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tracks only those recalls that could affect safety in some way.
Automakers typically call back vehicles for other types of problems, and contend those campaigns shouldn't be considered recalls.
That was the argument Toyota first advanced in September when it announced it was recalling 4.3 million vehicles to replace floor mats after uncontrolled acceleration problems were linked to about a dozen fatal crashes.
NHTSA quickly demanded Toyota issue a full recall, which the automaker did.
Acceleration isn't only problem
While Toyota's accelerator problem accounted for most of the nearly 4.9 million vehicles it recalled in 2009, the automaker issued eight other recalls for problems ranging from missing safety labels to corroded pickup frames that pushed it to its top spot.
"It's an unfortunate ranking, and certainly one Toyota doesn't wish to have," said Celeste Migliore, spokeswoman for Toyota. "The safety of our owners and the public remain our utmost concern, and Toyota has and will take appropriate measures to correct any defect it identifies."
Ford recalled 4.5 million older cars and trucks because of a problem with cruise control switches that can catch fire, a defect the automaker has struggled with for a decade that has affected 16 million vehicles.
Outside of that recall, Ford called back just 21,993 vehicles in 2009, a minuscule total for a major automaker.
"Part of Ford's rapid quality improvement has resulted from addressing issues sooner," said Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood. "The majority of vehicles we recalled in 2009 were older models, 10 years old on average with some more than 18 years old."
GM issues most recalls
General Motors recalled 2.3 million vehicles, the third-highest total, but had the most recalls issued among automakers with 17.
"We are catching most problems before they affect large numbers of customers," said GM spokesman Alan Adler. "The important thing is to eliminate these issues and improve reliability in the view of the people who purchase our vehicles."
Chrysler's total of 590,044 cars and trucks recalled was the lowest among the Detroit Three, but came over 16 events; outside of GM and Chrysler, no automaker had more than 10. Several of Chrysler's and GM's recalls covered just a few thousand vehicles.
While automakers pore over warranty data and customer complaints to catch safety problems early in production, none has proven perfect.
Of the 117 recalls, 21 were spurred by government regulators reviewing the same data automakers receive.
Five of the seven recalls issued by Hyundai were sparked by NHTSA probes, including three cases involving corrosion in so-called salt belt northern states severe enough to cause suspension problems.

Honda Cars : Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com Names Most-Researched New Vehicles for 2009 | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelley Blue Book, the leading provider of new and used car information, today announces the most-researched new vehicles of 2009 on the company's top-rated Web site, www.kbb.com. In addition, Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com reveals the top five brands with the greatest share of market interest for 2009.
This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Kelley Blue Book saw increased visitation to its Web site, with nearly 180 million visits to kbb.com in 2009. Because kbb.com is one of the most-trafficked automotive research sites, visitation to specific vehicles has become a leading indicator of sales patterns for manufacturers.

The Honda Civic, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry (in varying orders each year) have been the top three most-researched new-vehicles on kbb.com each year since 2004. However, many vehicles made noteworthy jumps into the top 20 most-researched new-vehicles for 2009 that were not on the list in 2008. Chevrolet's all-new redesigned Equinox and Camaro models both grace this year's list for the first time. Also new to this year's top 20 are the recently revamped Lexus RX 350 and the popular, fast-selling Ford Fusion.
The stabilization in gas prices for 2009 has indicated a trend away from smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles over the past year, and thus some popular small cars that were among the most-researched in 2008 have fallen off the list for 2009. Subcompact cars like the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit, along with the compact MINI Cooper, were among the most-researched new cars last year, but do not hold court among the most-researched models this year. In addition, Chevy's Malibu, redesigned for the 2008 model-year and featured on last year's 'most-researched' list, has seen some of its popularity fade over the past year, no longer listing among the top 20 most-researched new cars of 2009.
"The site traffic on Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com demonstrates what is on the minds of today's new-car shoppers, especially when examining the most-researched new-vehicles of 2009," said James Bell, executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com. "Declined interest in smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles and increased popularity in attractive, recently redesigned models is an accurate reflection of the marketplace in 2009. We also see that consumers are reacting well to new models and redesigns from domestic manufacturers like Chevy and Ford, which bodes well for their future sales numbers."
Top Five Brands with Greatest Share of Market Interest on Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com for 2009
1. Toyota
2. Honda
3. Ford
4. Chevrolet
5. Nissan
Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet and Nissan (respectively) are the top five brands with the highest share of market interest -- defined as the percent of new-car shopper activity for a particular brand -- on Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com for 2009. Of those brands, Ford saw the most growth throughout the course of the year, with its share rising steadily in the first half of the year and peaking during the summer months, benefitting as the only domestic manufacturer that did not require a bailout or undergo bankruptcy. Ford also benefitted from the "Cash-for-Clunkers" program during the summer of 2009, due to its aggressive promotion of the program.

Honda Cars : Amatoya: A Fire-Fighting Ford Warthog Concept | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
I think I just found my next vehicle....
The Amatoya may be just a concept Warthog-inspired reconnaissance and fire-suppression vehicle, but with Apache-like seating and robotic water cannons it makes us want to see it douse some fires.
Designed by Liam Ferguson, the system is similar to an MRAP and is designed to fill in as a quick response vehicle smaller than currently used commercial trucks. We're not sure there's a large enough market to justify the creation of such a vehicle, but we dig the look and the ethos of reducing human vulnerability. Just swap out the water cannons for real ones and you've got a great assault vehicle.
Here's what the designer has to say:
"Currently the role of site reconnaissance is predominantly carried out by light tankers or QAVs (Quick Attack Vehicles), typically these are modified single cabin commercial utility vehicles such as the Toyota Landcruiser. While the off road performance and maneuverability of such a vehicle is sufficient, its ability to actively suppress a fire threat is severely limited by the considerably small water supply (500lt) and distinct lack of survival engineering, fundamentally making it inadequate for its role.
CREW LAYOUT
Typically medium and heavy tankers require 5-6 crew members to be operated effectively. AMATOYA requires only 2. More military in its approach, reducing crew numbers per appliance will allow for greater dispersion of resources during a fire response.
Principal concerns when developing a vehicle of any nature are driver position, ingress/egress and vision angles. These elements become even more crucial in a vehicle purpose built for reconnaissance. A central, forward and high driver and ROSCO operator position akin to the Apache assault helicopter with generous down vision will assure functionality.
Access is via two gull wing doors, an optimal solution to accommodate the unconventional bodyside form. The distinct lack of a traditional b-pillar will provide uninterrupted views for the ROSCO operator situated above and behind the driver.
SURVIVABILITY
Cabin temperature and vehicle survivability are central to the AMATOYA concept. Existing approaches in survival engineering on fire tankers consistently appears as augmentation rather than integration. Methods are passive, typically reactive and often incapacitate the appliance when in use. A key example is the use of curtain heat shields, while effective, when employed render the appliance out of operation.
To create a homogenous directive towards survivability AMATOYA incorporates state of the art clear aerogel laminated insulation in the windows and bodywork, a dedicated auxiliary water supply to operate a highly efficient, intelligent temperature controlled spray down system, military grade sacrificial thermo ceramic intumescent paints, and a mechanically injected large displacement diesel engine specifically engineered for the unique conditions experienced on the fire ground.
These measures will assure that even in the case of an extremely prolonged and high intensity burnover the vehicle will not only maintain cabin integrity, but opposed to existing appliances AMATOYA will remain fully operational.
SUPPRESSION ABILITY
A Remotely Operated Suppression Cannon Outfit (ROSCO) coupled with a generous 1800lt + 400lt auxiliary water supply, offers a unique dynamic to vehicle operation. Current suppression techniques require large crew numbers (at least 5 per appliance) to perform through intermittent periods of strenuous labour to have any form of impact on a fire. The ROSCO system utilizing IFEX3000 impulse technology is not only a hugely efficient means of fire suppression, but vitally will eliminate crew members being subjected to the elements and stresses of extended high intensity work on the fire ground, while constantly maintaining vehicle mobility. A highly rated thermal imaging camera along with directional spot lights will assist in ‘hotspot' location to determine the most effective direction of attack.
OFF ROAD PERFORMANCE
AMATOYA represents the pinnacle of specialized performance in the fire appliance design field. Off road capabilities reflect enthusiast 4WD methods, including generous approach, departure and over ramp angles, suspension travel, ground clearance and minimized turn circle.
Central tire inflation (CTI) and run flat tire (RFT) technology coupled with beadlock tires will allow an extensive band of dynamic pressure control to aid in traversing the complex terrain often encountered on the fire ground.
MANUFACTURING
The vehicle adopts many conventional fabrication techniques associated with low production run specialized vehicles. The point of difference which separates this concept from existing appliances is the proposed monocoque steel body, comparable to military MRAP vehicles. A conventional fire tanker is built body-on-frame from a standard cab chassis truck base. While this approach is successful, the lack of integration results in certain performance issues. Body roll due to the on board water supply is an notable problem, however by creating a fully integrated solution, water reservoirs can be strategically located central and low in the vehicle to dramatically improve the centre of gravity.

Honda Cars : Environmental group sues Honda for "Save The Earth" trademark infringement | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
You gotta be kidding me....
All Honda wanted to do was save the Earth, one gallon of gasoline at a time. It turns out, though, that in the act of saving said Earth, the Japanese automaker stepped on a few toes – namely, those of Save the Earth Enterprises, an environmental group based in the United States.
See where this is going? That's right, Save the Earth Enterprises, which trademarked the slogan 'Save the Earth' way back in 1972, has sued Honda and its advertising agency, Rubin Postaer & Co., for infringement. The lawsuit seeks to recover Honda's profits from a recent ad campaign for the Civic and to stop future use by Honda of the Save the Earth trademark.
"The Honda ad campaign confused people into thinking that we endorsed Honda or were affiliated with Honda. We aren't affiliated with them and don't endorse them," said Neal Pargman of Save the Earth Foundation in a statement you'll find after the jump. The statement adds that Honda ignored cease-and-desist letters from the foundation. Perhaps they were too busy... saving the earth?

Environmental Group Sues Honda, Ad Agency for Trademark Violation
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Environmental group Save the Earth Enterprises, Wednesday sued American Honda Motor Co. and its advertising agency, Rubin Postaer & Co., for using its "Save the Earth" trademark without permission in Honda's recent advertising campaign for the Honda Civic.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, seeks to recover Honda's profits from the ad campaign and to stop future use by Honda of the Save the Earth trademark.
"The Honda ad campaign confused people into thinking that we endorsed Honda or were affiliated with Honda. We aren't affiliated with them and don't endorse them," said Save the Earth Foundation Neal Pargman.
Pargman noted that he has been selling merchandise bearing the Save the Earth trademark since 1972 and holds a U.S.-registered trademark. Honda's commercial, showing several uses of Save the Earth trademark, used the Foundation's trademark without permission, and ignored cease-and-desist letters from the Foundation.

Honda Cars : Mazda RX-7 Revival Rumors Mark the End of RX-8 | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Mazda could introduce the new two-seater Mazda RX-7 by the end of 2011, according to InsideLine. The blog says the 2012 model year car is still progressing despite the poor economy.
The automaker may cancel the four-seater RX-8 upon the RX-7's release in contrast to earlier reports that a more powerful, more expensive RX-8 would come to market. Based on design characteristics of the Furai concept, the next-gen RX-8 would have carried over 300-horsepower.
However, by the end of the first quarter of 2009, RX-8 sales had plummeted 47.5% compared to a year earlier. Sluggish RX-8 sales may prompt the decision to halt the model for the time being. The new RX-7 will use the new-generation Renesis 16X rotary engine which debuted in the Taiki concept. This dual rotary Wankel engine has a roughly 300cc bigger displacement than the previous Renesis unit, putting out as much as 350hp and 214 ft-lb of torque over the RX-8's 232 hp and 159 lb-ft of torque.
Do not expect the RX-7 to be tuned for this much power, despite its engine's capabilities. A 250hp unit is more likely to appear on the $25,000 car, reports the blog.

The automaker may cancel the four-seater RX-8 upon the RX-7's release in contrast to earlier reports that a more powerful, more expensive RX-8 would come to market. Based on design characteristics of the Furai concept, the next-gen RX-8 would have carried over 300-horsepower.

Honda Cars : New Honda Beat: Next-Generation Kei Roadster Speculated | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Remember the original Beat, Honda's pint-sized, two-seater roadster with the mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout of the 1990s? Well, Japan's Best Car magazine is doing what it does best by speculating on the return of the Beat in Honda's car range.
Our knowledge of the Japanese language is non-existent so we can't share any details from the article (any help would be hugely appreciated) but we assume from the side air-vents that the design proposal is for a rear-engined roadster - something like the poor man's Porsche.
We don't know if the rendering / story is based on actual inside information or pure speculation, but it would be interesting to hear your say about whether or not a model like this could be successful in markets outside Japan in today's world of downsizing and greener cars.

Honda Cars : Do YOU Know All About Electric Vehicles OR Do YOU Just Know The Myths? | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Here's a good read....
Soon enough it seems that all that will be available to drive will be electric vehicles. With governments across the globe embracing electric vehicles, and pushing for innovation and product development, the days of the gasoline-powered automobile look numbered.
But, are EVs so bad?
According to Plug In America, they are not. Granted, they may be slightly biased.Take a look below and scan through the top 12 myths about EVs. Do YOU think these myths are fact or fiction?
Let us know, SPIES!
Press release follows:
Plug In America, a nonprofit group leading the clean-vehicle movement, is issuing the following list of common misconceptions or “myths” about all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars. Media and others continue to misunderstand and mischaracterize this new technology. Thousands of these clean vehicles—many of them zero-emission—are expected to start coming to auto dealerships in late 2010. See Plug In America’s Tracker for a comprehensive list of such vehicles on the road today and expected for delivery in 2010 and beyond.
Acronyms and definitions:
· EV: Electric Vehicle, meaning all-electric (no gas)
· BEV: Battery Electric Vehicle or all-electric vehicle
· PHEV: Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle
· Plug-in or Plug-in electric vehicle: Either a BEV or a PHEV
Number of EVs Driven Today:
Plug In America estimates that there are 3,000 highway-capable EVs from major automakers on U.S. roads today:
· 800 Toyota RAV4-EVs
· 1,000 Teslas
· 150 Ford Ranger trucks
· 50 Chevy S-10 trucks
· 500 test-only BMW Mini Es
· 500 others including Solectrias and EPIC Mini-Vans
MYTH: EVs don't have enough range. You'll be stranded when you run out of electricity
FACT: Americans drive an average of 40 miles per day, according to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. Most new BEVs have a range of at least double that and can be charged at any ordinary electrical outlet (120V) or publicly accessible station with a faster charger. The latter, already in use, will proliferate as the plug-in infrastructure is built out. At present, all it takes is planning for EV owners, who can travel up to 120 miles on a single charge, to use their cars on heavy travel days. Alternatively, a PHEV goes at least 300 miles on a combination of electricity and gasoline.
Myth: EVs are good for short city trips only
FACT: Consumers have owned and driven EVs for seven years or more and regularly use them for trips of up to 120 miles.
MYTH: EVs just replace the tailpipe with a smokestack
FACT: Even today, with 52% of U.S. electricity generated by coal-fired power plants, plug-in cars reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and most other pollutants compared with conventional gas or hybrid vehicles. Plug-ins can run on renewable electricity from sources such as the sun or wind. PHEVs will reduce greenhouse gases and other emissions, even if the source of electricity is mostly coal, a 2007 study by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and NRDC showed. Read the summary of some 30 studies, analyses and presentations on this topic.
MYTH: The charging infrastructure must be built before people will adopt EVs
FACT: Most charging will be done at home, so a public charging infrastructure isn’t a prerequisite. Still, a robust infrastructure will help, especially for apartment dwellers and those regularly driving long distances. But at least seven companies are competing to dominate the public-charging-station market and a trade group representing the nation's electric utilities has pledged to “aggressively” create the infrastructure to support “full-scale commercialization and deployment” of plug-ins.
MYTH: The grid will crash if millions of plug-ins charge at once
FACT: Off-peak electricity production and transmission capacity could fuel the daily commutes of 73% percent of all cars, light trucks, SUVs and vans on the road today if they were PHEVs, a 2007 study by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory found. Also, utilities are upgrading some local distribution systems to accommodate plug-ins, just as they do when residents add more air conditioners and TVs. Plug-ins, which can be seen as energy storage devices on wheels, can actually benefit the grid, making green energies like solar and wind power even more viable.
MYTH: Battery chemicals are bad for the environment and can't be recycled
FACT: Ninety-nine percent of batteries in conventional cars are recycled, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The metals in newer batteries are more valuable and recycling programs are already being developed for them. Utilities plan to use batteries for energy storage once they are no longer viable in a vehicle.
MYTH: EVs take too long to charge
FACT: The most convenient place and time to charge is at home while you sleep. Even using the slowest 120-volt outlet, the car can be left to charge overnight, producing about 40 miles of range. Most new BEVs and PHEVs will charge from 240-volt outlets providing double or triple the charge in the same amount of time. Charging stations that reduce charging time even more are beginning to appear.
MYTH: Plug-ins are too expensive for market penetration
FACT: New technologies are typically costly. Remember when cell phones and DVDs were introduced? Also, the government stimulus package includes a $2,500 to $7,500 tax credit for EVs and PHEVs. Some states are considering additional incentives ($5,000 in California and Texas). And, the purchase and lifetime operating cost of an EV is on par with or less than its gas-powered equivalent because EVs require almost no maintenance or repair: no oil or filter changes, no tune ups, no smog checks.
MYTH: Batteries will cost $15,000 to replace after only a few years
FACT: The battery is the priciest part of a plug-in, but costs will drop as production increases and the auto industry is expected to be purchasing up to $25 billion in advanced batteries annually by 2015. Some car makers plan to lease their batteries, so replacement won’t be an issue. The Chevy Volt PHEV will have a 10-year battery warranty that would cover battery replacement.
MYTH: There isn't enough lithium in the world to make all the new batteries
FACT: Even in a worst-case scenario of zero battery recycling, aggressive EV sales, no new mining methods or sites, existing lithium stores will be sufficient for projected EV production for the next 75 years. See an analysis at PlugInAmerica.org. Also, lithium comes from many countries (24% is found in the United States), so we won’t be dependent on any one global region.
MYTH: Lithium batteries are dangerous and can explode
FACT: Among the many kinds of lithium-ion batteries, lithium-cobalt batteries found in consumer electronics can pose a fire risk in certain circumstances. These risks can be mitigated by the use of advanced-battery management systems and careful design that prevents “thermal runaway.” Most plug-in vehicle makers are working with other battery types (such as lithium-iron-phosphate and lithium-manganese) which have inherent safety advantages and provide more years of service.
MYTH: Most of us will still be driving gas cars through 2050
FACT: Several irrefutable factors are driving the shift from gasoline to plug-in vehicles: ever-toughening federal fuel economy standards and state caps on greenhouse gas emissions; projected price hikes for petroleum products as demand increases and supply flattens or drops; broad agreement over the need for America to reduce its reliance on petroleum for economic and national security reasons; and climate change, which is occurring faster than previously thought, according to the journal Science and many other sources.

Honda Cars : Honda Accord Tourer Taxi Cab: You Won't Be Seeing this Acura in the States | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
While Acura has confirmed that it will bring the European Honda Accord Tourer to the U.S. as the 2011 TSX Sport Wagon in fall 2010 (the Euro Accord and the TSX are virtually one and the same), it's highly unlikely that you'll ever see one in a yellowish finish with a Taxi roof sign. But if you're planning a trip to Germany, you might very well be able to hitch a ride on a Accord Tourer Taxi - that is, if you manage to spot one among all the Mercs.
The Euro-spec model is powered by a 2.2-liter i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel that delivers an output of 150 horsepower and 350Nm or 258 lb-ft of peak torque returning a combined fuel economy of 6.6 lt/100 or 35.7mpg US in the European cycle.
The new Accord Tourer Elegance cab comes equipped with a taximeter case, wireless telephone pre-installation and special brackets for the taxi sign while the station wagon's standard features include an electric tailgate, cruise control, leather steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, MP3-capable CD player, dual-zone automatic climate control and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The taxi version of the Accord Tourer is available for order now in Germany with pricing set at €20,690 or at today's exchange rates, US$29,800.

Honda Cars : The Muschallaro: Part Challenger, Part Camaro, Part Mustang | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
A talented modeler named Robert D. came up with the wacky idea of creating a scale-model that combines elements from the latest editions of Detroit's pony cars: the body of a Chevy Camaro, the front end of a Dodge Challenger and the rear-end of the Ford Mustang. And this here is the result.
I like the main body of the Camaro better than the Challenger. I like the Challenger front end better than the Camaro. Once the idea was in my head to add Mustang to the equation, it all came together, because I found out pretty quickly that the three could combine into one," Robert stated in a forum for model cars.
We don't have to tell those of that you have ever attempted to make a custom model that it's easier said than done. Nevertheless, after four painstaking months of work, Robert pulled it off.
And even if you disagree with the aesthetics or the parts of the three muscle cars that were chosen for the model, you can't but admire the result from a technical point of view.
Now, any ideas what the tri-pony car should be named?

Honda Cars : More Brochure pic's of the 2011 Honda CRZ Leaked | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
A couple of weeks back, the world got a look at some leaked Honda CR-Z brochure images. Today is more of the same, although these images are bigger and clearly. We also get some interior shots that were absent from the first brochure leak go-round. Not a bad looking place to spend some economical time.
To recap, the Honda CR-Z is the much-anticipated CRX spiritual successor from Honda. The leaked brochure states the power will be 112 horsepower from the gas engine, plus an additional 12 ponies from the electric assist motor. There will also be 107 pound-feet of torque from the 1.5-liter gas engine coupled to 57 electric lb-ft. of the stuff. You might be scoffing, but remember that the original CRX made around 60 hp and was much loved by enthusiasts.
Why? Weight. As in, the CRX didn't have any. In fact, when introduced in 1984, it weighed less than a Lotus Elise does today – about 1,800 pounds. Meaning it's freakishly light. Sadly, this new batch of images gives us no indication of the CR-Z's curb weight. Odds are the CR-Z will get a bit more beef when it comes here to the States.
And hey... let's not overlook the very good possibility of an Si or Type-R version at some point down the road.

Honda Cars : More details on rumored 2013 Nissan GT-R hybrid | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Is this ever a nice car!
If we told you there was a variant of the iconic Nissan GT-R putting out around 600 horsepower, gobs of weight-saving technology and fuel economy that can hit 25-30 mpg on the highway would you be interested? What if we told you that the added power came via the same 160 hp electric motor that rested beneath the beautiful sheetmetal of the Infiniti Essence concept at last year's Geneva Motor Show?
The crew at Inside Line are reporting that the hybrid-powered Nissan GT-R is a real possibility for production, complete with the current model's 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and a battery pack for greenification. Weight savings is of paramount importance, and Nissan plans to throw every trick in the book at the hybrid GT-R, although we'd wager that the gas-electric variant will still weigh more than the deceptively porky model in showrooms now. Of course, Nissan wouldn't be interested in a vehicle with less performance than the current model so any hybrid-equipped GT-R would have to at least match Godzilla's numbers.
With all that power comes great fiscal responsibility, so what would a GT-R hybrid cost? IL guesses $100,000 could be the price of entry, though Nissan could be looking for a little more coin than that. After all the GT-R Spec-V was rumored to cost quite a bit more and if you add a hybrid powertrain to Spec-V weight loss techniques, we could be looking at one very expensive green machine.

Honda Cars : 2010 Acura NSX to Live as Super GT Racer - Road Car Plans Still Dead | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Acura's NSX supercar may rise from the dead to compete in the Super GT racing series.
According to InsideLine, Acura circumvented Super GT Series homologation rules that require race cars be based on a production vehicle. They did this by using another rule which allows production ready (but not currently in production) cars to be entered into the series. The trick appears to have worked, as series officials (the Japan Automobile Federation) have given the NSX the green light.
While details are limited, the race car is expected to be virtually identical to the production NSX that was killed off late last year. However, the NSX racer will reportedly use a 3.4-liter V8 instead of a 5.0-liter V10 which was expected in the production model.
Look for more information to be released when the 2010 racing season starts up.

Honda Cars : Nissan yet again considering return of 240SX | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Which one could it be????
With global concern over the unstable oil prices, automakers are again looking to package “fun” in smaller, more gas-efficient ways – enter the return of the upcoming Nissan 240SX. Like Toyota and Subaru’s partnership-created FT-86 sports car and Honda’s upcoming CR-Z sporty hybrid, Nissan is reportedly yet again working on the return of its small 240SX despite the project being canceled earlier this year.
Nissan canceled the last 240SX back in 2002, and has relied on the 350Z and 370Z for its sporty offering since then. Now Nissan is looking to recreate the next 240SX on a shortened version of its FR-L platform, which underpins the 370Z and Infiniti G sedan. The news of the FR-L platform means that the next SX will feature rear-wheel-drive like its slightly larger platform mates, and throws out the three-year old rumor that it may be a mid-engined car like the Urge concept. There is even talk of a factory-supplied flamboyant body kit among the options.
According to InsideLine, power is expected to arrive in the form of a 1.8-liter inline-4, and with the help of its turbocharger will output somewhere in the realm of 200 horsepower. Considering the high potential for those looking to use Nissan’s 240SX as a true entry-level car as it is intended, Nissan will likely offer a less potent naturally aspirated engine as well for those on a tighter budget.
Although there is currently no confirmation on any high-performance versions of the 240SX in the works, given its pedigree and competition it is likely that some 300+ hp variants will work their way into the lineup within a year or two of initial release which is believed to be between 2011 and 2012. Expect the 240SX to be in the same segment as the FT-86 and Mazda MX-5 in terms of pricing.
Spy shots have not yet been secured, but it is believed that the next 240SX will be based loosely on the 2005 Nissan Foria concept car shown in the preview.

December 2009 |
Honda has announced plans for a world premiere at the India Auto Expo 2010, to be held in New Delhi from January 5 to 11, 2010. Called the “New Small Concept”, the debutant will preview a small car Honda is currently developing for India and emerging markets.
After the Tata Nano, which was launched at the previous Auto Expo, carmakers are all rushing to capture a slice of the Indian market, which has serious potential for growth as a big section of the population are beginning to graduate to four wheels. Early settlers Suzuki (with its Maruti brand) and Hyundai are doing brisk business selling small cars and others want in on the action.
In addition to the New Small Concept, Honda will also parade the CR-Z Concept and wow showgoers with a demonstration by humanoid robot, ASIMO.

Honda Cars : Toyota Introduces All-New 2011 Toyota Sienna Minivan | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Nice van, I can't wait until details for the next generation Honda Odyssey start leaking out....
• Includes Sienna’s First Four-Cylinder and All-New SE Grade
• Seven Standard Airbags and Available Pre-Collision System
• Complete Redesign Adds Contemporary Styling and More Interior Space
DANA POINT, Calif. - -Since 1997 the Toyota Sienna has been well known as a transportation solution for moving people and cargo comfortably and efficiently. The all-new third-generation Sienna will look and drive more like a sedan, conform to new ideas about personal comfort, easily accommodate cargo, and handle big loads.
The 2011 Sienna has been completely redesigned to handle these needs as it shifts to a more expressive and dynamic vehicle with a stronger profile, high shoulder character and responsive handling. With state-of the art features and rewarding driving dynamics, it is a vehicle that current minivan, passenger car and sport utility vehicle owners will find satisfying to drive. Sienna will offer new models, including a sporty SE and a four-cylinder powertrain, as it continues to be the only minivan with an all-wheel-drive option.
“The all-new Sienna is an example of Toyota’s commitment to lead the marketplace as it anticipates consumers’ needs and changes in lifestyle,” said Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “The third-generation Sienna combines a contemporary style with features not previously seen in a minivan, and a fun-to-drive spirit that will surprise many, along with the flexibility, spaciousness and features that have defined the segment.”
The Sienna was designed by Toyota’s Calty Design Research and developed at Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., with assembly being accomplished at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana.
Visually Intriguing
The Sienna has a distinctly new visual direction and features. The sportier profile is complemented with distinctive window shapes and a deliberately hidden door slider within the window graphic.
The strong high shoulder and distinct fender flares visually emphasize the wheels. Dimensionally, the new Sienna rides on the same wheelbase as the prior generation, but it is wider and slightly shorter overall.
The front has a bold design. Sophisticated headlamps angled higher than the grille lends a confident front presence. The sculpted rear corner separates the Sienna from boxy minivans as it surrounds the functional yet elegant LED taillights.
The interior features upscale quality and elegance, yet every element is logical and functional. The distinctive swept shape of the IP creates the perception of increased personal space for both driver and passenger. Sleek seat designs add flexibility and roominess, while central climate and audio controls are integrated into a single graphic element.
Overall, the new Sienna has a sportier, classier appearance. A Cd of 0.306 is the result of careful design work and is a contributing factor in maintaining a quiet cabin and providing surprising fuel economy.
Power, Plus EfficiencyA choice of two responsive DOHC engines will be available: a 3.5-liter V6 or 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. Both engines offer the latest in efficient, lightweight technology, including Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), roller rocker arms and an Acoustically Controlled Induction System (ACIS) that changes the length of the air-intake pipe to supply more torque on demand.
The 3.5-liter V6 generates 266 horsepower at 6,200 rpm, with expected EPA-estimated mileage ratings of 18 mpg city/24 mpg highway (16 mpg city/22 mpg highway on AWD models). It also has a 3,500-pound towing capacity. A four-cylinder engine will be offered for the first time in the Sienna. With 187 horsepower at 5,800 rpm, the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine produces responsive power that exceeds some competitors V6 performance, while delivering expected EPA-estimated fuel efficiency ratings of 19 mpg city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Both engines are matched with Sienna’s first state-of-the-art, electronically controlled six-speed transmission with sequential shift that provides smooth gear-shift feeling, quiet performance and a lightweight, compact size.
The suspension uses front MacPherson struts, combined with rack-and pinion steering for smooth, linear steering feel. Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and a wider stance helps deliver a more solid direct on-road feel. Aerodynamic under-body parts also contribute to Sienna’s dynamic performance.
Models and Features
The Sienna will come in five grades: Sienna grade, LE, SE, XLE and Limited. All-wheel-drive is available with the V6 on LE, XLE and Limited models. All others are front-wheel drive.
The Sienna and LE grades are available with either the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine or the 3.5-liter V6. The value-driven Sienna grade and popular LE are equipped with an array of standard features that include: cruise control, Daytime Running Lights with manual on/off feature, tri-zone air conditioning, six- or eight-way-adjustable driver’s captain’s chair, power windows with auto up/down and jam protection, AM/FM CD player with four speakers, XM compatibility, auxiliary jack, power door locks, remote keyless entry, and three 12V outlets, among other amenities.
The LE V6 model is upgraded with even more standard features including dual power-sliding doors and power rear door, an eight-way power driver seat with power lumbar support, electrochromatic rearview mirror with Homelink™, multi-information display with backup camera, rear window sunshades, AM/FM/MP3 CD player, integrated XM® satellite radio (subscription required), auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPod® connectivity, and hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology, and steering wheel audio controls. These features can be added to the four-cylinder model as an optional package.
The XLE builds on the LE, adding features such as leather-trimmed seats, moonroof, an anti-theft system with engine immobilizer, and heated front seats. Select optional XLE equipment includes a 10-speaker JBL® premium sound system with voice-activated DVD Navigation and Panorama rear camera with integrated back-up guides, XM® NavTraffic (subscription required), rear-seat Dual View Entertainment system, rear sonar, Smart Key, and an auxiliary audio jack and USB port with iPod® connectivity.
The Limited is designed for customers who want all the features with more luxury. The standard equipment list is extensive, including new second-row Lounge Seating and a power 60/40 Split & Stow third-row seat, front and rear parking sonar, dual moonroof, Smart Key that also operates on both sliding doors (an industry-first), Safety Connect™, and North America’s first independently powered, slide opening dual moonroofs. Select options include those available on the XLE plus HID auto high-beam auto-high beam headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
New Sporty SE
Every Sienna will ride well and track cleanly through corners, but none more so than the newest addition to the line: the sporty SE.
The SE is designed for those who appreciate an even sportier design with responsive performance. The front has a more aggressive appearance. The side skirting visually lowers the vehicle and smoked taillights make a distinctive statement. Aerodynamic sculpting hugs the standard 19-inch alloy wheels. The SE sits lower, on a sport-tuned suspension for quicker feedback and better handling, and it comes with exclusive instrumentation and unique interior colors and trim.
Comfort Remains Key
The cabin of the new Sienna blends options for more individual space and better cargo capacity.
The interior is more than two inches longer, and the seats now have longer ranges of travel, making it possible to comfortably accommodate a wider range of heights and sizes.
The front seats have more rearward travel, and the steering wheel has a less upright position, so the driver can adopt a comfortable driving posture. The instruments and controls are clear and concise, and the greater cabin width helps create extended personal space for both driver and front passenger.
Numerous storage bins, cupholders and cargo spaces have been strategically placed in convenient locations. A conversation mirror, integrated into the sunglass case in the overhead console, allows visual contact with rear seat passengers.
Throughout the cabin, there is an open field of view to create an airy, roomy ambiance. With wider fields of vision, rearmost passengers can see forward more easily.
Both seven- and eight-seat cabins can be configured for a full contingent of passengers, a load of cargo, or a convenient mix of both. In seven-seat cabins, the second row captain chairs slide 23 inches, moving to the rear to create legroom for the tallest passengers and easier ingress and egress. They can be moved forward close to the front seats to make it easy to care for a child passenger, while also allowing easy access for third-row passengers.
A sliding center console on the XLE all-wheel-drive and Limited grades can be shared between the front seats and second row passengers. The illuminated console slides into the second row area to provide convenient access for both rows, so the need for storage and passenger comfort can be equally served.
For even more passenger comfort, there is standard second-row Lounge Seating on the Limited grade, which includes leg and foot support. Second-row captain chairs on all grades have dual armrests, and a one-motion release mechanism in case the seat needs to be removed.
On eight-passenger models the second row seats offer added versatility and convenience. The second-row center seat can be removed and stowed in the left side of the rear-storage area. When the center seat is stowed, a cupholder and storage tray is revealed. The eight-passenger interior can easily be converted for seven passengers, and quickly reconfigured back for eight.
The second-row seats also feature a Tip Up and Long Slide feature, allowing them to slide forward and back on extended rails, making more room for people or cargo. All second row seats, regardless of configuration, move out of the way with one touch to gain easy access to the third row seats.
The 60/40 Split and Stow third-row seat folds flat with one motion, with the Limited front-wheel drive receiving a power feature. The third row has been moved about two inches rearward for enhanced comfort. With the third-row seat in use, there is enough storage for five golf bags or four large suitcases. Four handy grocery hooks, with two in the back and two in the second row seatbacks, add storage convenience.
It is easier than ever to load the Sienna, thanks to wider doors and one-touch second-row seats. By sliding the second-row seats all the way to the rear, a walk-in aisle is created, making it easier to enter, exit, install a child seat, or place a child in a seat. The second-row seats can be moved forward, behind the front row, to maximize rear cargo capacity, especially with the third-row stowed flat.
With the third row seat stowed and the second row seat removed, the cargo area is approximately eight feet long and four feet wide. The wide back door opening and low floor height make loading and unloading easy.
A cabin air filter is standard along with an air-conditioning system that controls the temperature of three separate zones.
Innovative Technologies
A rear-seat Dual View Entertainment Center is a first for North America. It is an innovative option that uses two displays side-by-side to create a seamless 16.4-inch widescreen image from a single source. When two separate entertainment options are called for, the system can split the screen into two individual screens, each with input from separate sources. Used as a single screen, it can be easily seen from the third row, and it can be operated from any seat via remote control. Used as two screens, the system can accommodate the preferences of two separate passengers who might want to play a video game or watch a second DVD simultaneously via auxiliary inputs.
Other technological upgrades include the world’s first Panorama Camera rear monitor with a 180-degree view, and on-screen back-up guides to that help drivers to back into parking spots or driveways.
Safety for All (hmmm, where'd they get that from?!?)
The Star Safety SystemTM, which includes Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Traction Control (TRAC), is standard on all Sienna models. Enhanced VSC coordinates the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist with Traction Control (TRAC) and Electric Power Steering (EPS), to help provide a the driver a better-integrated, controlled vehicle in the event of an emergency maneuver.
A Pre-Collision System (PCS) with pre-collision seatbelt system is an available option on Limited, as is the latest in advanced vehicle control technology: Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM). The VDIM system coordinates brake control with engine output and steering inputs, allowing all the control and safety systems to cooperate seamlessly. Unlike reactive traction systems, VDIM operates proactively. During normal driving, the system works smoothly to enhance control even before the vehicle reaches its limits.
Seven airbags are standard equipment, including dual-stage front and seat-mounted side airbags for driver and front passenger, plus a new segment-first driver’s side knee airbag. Side curtain airbags cover the length of the cabin, from the front seats to the third row. Active headrests are used in both front seats to help reduce the possibility of whiplash in a collision.
The new Safety Connect™ telematics system is standard on Limited and optional on XLE. Safety Connect offers four safety and security features: Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location, Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), and Roadside Assistance. A complimentary one-year trial subscription is included.
In case of airbag deployment or severe rear-end collision, Automatic Collision Notification is designed to automatically call a response center. If a response agent cannot communicate with the occupants, the agent can contact the nearest emergency-services provider to dispatch assistance.
Pushing the in-vehicle “SOS” button allows drivers to reach the response center to request help in an emergency as well as for a wide range of roadside assistance needs. If a Sienna equipped with Safety Connect is stolen, agents can work with local authorities to help locate and recover the vehicle.
Color and Trim
Sienna will be available in 10 exterior colors including two new colors, Pre-Dawn Gray Mica and South Pacific Pearl. Additional colors include Super White, Blizzard Pearl, Silver Sky Metallic, Black, Salsa Red Pearl, Sandy Beach Metallic, and Cypress Pearl. They will be mated to two interior colors, Light Gray and Bisque that will be available in both fabric and leather. The SE grade will offer a unique Charcoal fabric and leatherette interior with contrasting stitching.
Limited Warranty
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. Toyota dealers have complete details on the limited warranty.
The all-new 2011 Sienna will begin arriving at Toyota dealerships nationally in February 2010 with the SE and four-cylinder-equipped models going on sale in April.

Honda Cars : GM lets Saab die | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
First Saturn, then Pontiac, now SAAB....
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors is shutting down its Swedish car brand, Saab, after attempts to close a deal with a buyer failed.
GM had announced earlier this year that it was close to reaching a deal with Swedish super-carmaker Koenigsegg. That deal fell, though.
"In the end, Koenigsegg discovered some issues they didn't think could be overcome in a timely fashion," said John Smith, GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances.
Dutch exotic carmaker Spyker then emerged as a bidder for Saab, but that deal couldn't be concluded in time, GM said.
In both cases, according to GM, issues arose during negotiations that prevented a final sale. GM executives would not say what the specific problems were, however.
"Like everybody, we would have preferred a different outcome," Smith said.
GM said it still intends to sell some Saab 9-3 and 9-5 technologies to the Chinese automaker Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings Co. Ltd. That deal was announced last week.
With GM's announcement that it's winding down Saab, BAIC or other companies may be able to buy more of Saab's assets, possibly even the brand name itself, Smith said. But no buyers have expressed interest, yet.
Brands we loved ... and lost in 2009
"Despite the best efforts of all involved, it has become very clear that the due diligence required to complete this complex transaction could not be executed in a reasonable time. In order to maintain operations, Saab needed a quick resolution," said GM Europe President Nick Reilly.
"We regret that we were not able to complete this transaction with Spyker Cars."
GM has owned the Swedish automaker since 1989; Saab has been making cars since 1949. GM will now begin winding down Saab production, but warranties will continue to be honored, and spare parts will still be available, the company said.
In the past two decades, GM has made every effort to turn Saab into a profitable car brand, Smith said. But recent global economic problems were simply too much for the still-weak automaker to survive.
"It's a business that has struggled more years than not during its existence," Smith said.
A total of 3,400 employees will be directly affected by Saab's closure, GM spokesman Chris Pruess said.
Saab has never been a big-selling car brand, but the recent global recession and news of the brand's possible demise have driven sales down to crisis levels. Saab's U.S. sales have been down by more than half so far this year.Sweden's other major automaker, Volvo, is currently owned by Ford, which is in the process of selling it to the Chinese automaker Geely.
As part of its bankruptcy restructuring, GM planned to sell of or wind down four of the eight brands it recently operated. Pontiac is being wound down; a deal to sell the Saturn brand to Penske Automotive fell through in September; and a deal to sell the Hummer SUV brand to Chinese heavy equipment maker Sichuan Tengzhong is awaiting government approvals.
GM's remaining brands are Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac.

Honda Cars : Temple of Vtec: Acura's "Smart Luxury" future is confirmed, and so is a sub-TSX model | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
As a followup to last week's news item about Acura's rumored adoption of the "Smart Luxury" tagline (and migration away from the previous "Tier 1" target), we have been able to confirm that this course deflection has in fact been communicated to the dealer body.
We can also confirm that Acura has told their dealer body to expect:
-a new entry-luxury model
-an "amazing flagship" model
-a line of hybrid vehicles done "the Acura way".
-NO rear-wheel-drive or V8-powered vehicles
The key drivers for this change in course are said to include the global economic crisis and upcoming 2016 federal mandates which dictate a fleet average of more than 37mpg for Honda and Acura combined. This figure represents an increase of more than 10mpg over where they currently stand.
We are told that Acura has also promised that the future model lineup will feature more differentiation (in terms of size) between models, though the pipeline's rate of introductions may slow down a bit. Acura has previously stated that the lineup would offer an MMC or FMC every 6 months for the next several years, but now they are saying an MMC or FMC "every year".

Honda Cars : ‘Avatar’ movie release to showcase Honda engine innovation | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
Honda UK has snapped up the advertising spot before the premiere of James Cameron’s new movie, ‘Avatar’, to promote its latest work.
The new 60-inch film, created by Wieden + Kennedy London, aims to showcase the breadth of Honda’s engineering experience; from ATVs, to marine engines, motorcycles, and the humanoid robot, ASIMO.
‘Everything’ attempts to highlight how Honda has distilled that varied knowledge and expertise into the cars it makes today – with the focus on the popular British-built Civic model.
Created by Chris Groom and Sam Heath, ‘Everything’ will debut on UK TV on 18 January, running for a period of six weeks. The film will also play out during screenings of Avatar for six weeks from Thursday, 17 December, 2009.
The film was shot over five days; on a high security Spanish test track, on water, and in Honda’s UK training facility – the Honda Institute. There are 972 edits over 17 video layers – making each section essentially an edit in itself.
The soundtrack is ‘Atlas’, by The Battles, which has been rearranged to fit to the picture and reflect the style of editing used for the advert. The sound designer, BAFTA award-wining Martin Hernandez has worked on films including Babel, Pan’s Labyrinth and 21 Grams.
“Decades of engineering innovation make Honda what it is today. As a result we are able to apply our know-how to constantly evolve the huge range of products we sell today and might sell in the future,” said Manager of Customer Communications at Honda (UK), Ian Armstrong.
“Every product with a Honda badge carries that engineering DNA – not least the hugely popular British-built Civic.”

Honda Cars : Honda Greenlights a 2nd Generation Element | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
In spite of being functionally outstanding, Honda's odd looking Element crossover has never lived up to sales expectations. The funky box never approached the initial sales target of 75,000 units a year, and this year it's on track for barely more than 15,000 sales. Despite its relative commercial failure, Honda has reportedly given the green light to a second generation model. Despite a couple of modest freshenings, the Element is already seven years into its life cycle – considerably longer than typical for a Japanese branded model.
Given the slow sales, why would Honda bother with a new iteration? Honda's executive vice-president, John Mendel, has informed Automotive News that virtually all Element sales are incremental. The Element shares its platform with the much higher volume CR-V, but apparently almost no buyers cross-shop the two vehicles – Element buyers have no interest in the CR-V and vice-versa. If Honda does proceed with a new model, perhaps unique features like the recently introduced dog friendly package will be the key to increased differentiation and success.

Honda Cars : Honda's latest is sexy, green and an Internet hit | 2013 New Honda Car Reviews | 0 |
December 2009 |
The 2010 Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe is one of the most eagerly anticipated new cars, so much so that a Japanese consumer brochure has been leaked and posted on the Internet, where it's drawn hundreds of thousands of hits.
The manufacturer seems out to prove that green cars can also be sexy in the looks department. The final design is much the same as the concept version revealed last year, with some minor changes not immediately evident in the brochure.
The brochure reveals that the CR-Z is powered by a gas-fuelled 1.5-litre i-VTEC internal combustion engine that produces 114 hp at 6,000 revs as well as 145Nm of torque at 4,800 revs. The engine operates with a 14-hp electric motor with an output 78Nm of torque, matched to a six-speed manual transmission.
The CR-Z is expected to go on sale in Japan by February 2010, shortly before its launch in other major world markets.
-Viridian Joule hardly rolls off the tongue but in an online contest by General Motors, it garnered more than 3,000 votes as the signature colour for the new Chevy Volt electric/ gas car set for launch next year.
It also won the man who came up with the paint name, David Thomas of Florida, the first opportunity to drive a pre-production version of the new family sedan.
"I looked at the photo of the Volt on the contest website and thought it looked emerald in color, which led to jewel and then to an alternate yet appropriate play on that word -joule [a unit of electrical energy]," said 40-year-old Thomas.
Chevrolet also selected "EVergreen," offered by Devin McQuarrie, 30, and "environMINT," entered by Matthew Valbuena, 30, both of California.
"When our Volt marketing materials arrive in dealerships, you'll see 'Viridian Joule'as the official name of the silver exterior with an emerald hue," said Maria Rohrer, Global Volt and Global Marketing Director at Chevrolet.
The Chevy Volt is an electric vehicle capable of driving up to 100 kms between fill-ups on electricity. When the Volt's lithium-ion battery is depleted, an engine/generator operates to extend the range to about 480 kilometres before refueling or recharging is necessary.
-Fiesta Movement agents and their Twitter friends gathered at the Palladium in West Hollywood to set a new Guinness World Record for the "most attendees at a tweetup"
A tweetup is any gathering of two or more people who know each other through Twitter, and this unprecedented event brought together Fiesta Movement agents and Twitter friends.
Ford's Fiesta Movement Awards Celebration provided attendees with a sneak peek of the North American Fiesta.
100 young folks are test driving and living with a European-spec Ford Fiesta for six months, travelling as agents on special missions. They then go on to relate their experiences through a variety of social media sites.
These agents -picked from online contestants across the U.S.-have travelled more than 2.25 million kilometres and generated more than 6 million YouTube views, nearly 740,000 Flickr views and more than 3.7 million Twitter impressions of the car.
"Time and again, our Fiesta Movement agents have shown how social media, adventurous spirit and unbridled enthusiasm can bring people together in new, exciting ways," said Connie Fontaine, Ford brand content and alliances manager. "Never before has a group of car owners created such a sustained buzz for a new car."
